About me and my therapy practice
Why person-centred counselling?
You are the expert in your own life.
Person-centred counselling is based on the belief that, given the right conditions, we can develop a greater understanding of ourselves and find our own way forward.
I won't tell you what you should do.
I won't tell you what I think you ought to do.
And I won't judge you for the things you tell me.
Instead, I'll listen carefully and help you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences so that together we can begin to understand what's happening for you.
Sometimes the answer isn't obvious at first.
That's okay.
We can take the time to find it.
Practice description
A place where you can talk openly, without judgement.鈥
Perhaps you're struggling with something you've kept to yourself.
Maybe you've talked to friends or family, but their opinions, advice or expectations have made it difficult to work out what you really think or feel.
Or perhaps you've never told anyone what is really going on.
Counselling can give you something different.
A space where you can talk openly, be listened to and explore what's happening for you 鈥 without someone telling you what they think you should do.
Sometimes you just need someone to listen
The people who care about us usually want to help.
Friends and family may have advice. They may have strong opinions about what you should do. They may tell you what they think is best for you.
And sometimes that's exactly what we need.
But sometimes, you don't need another opinion.
You need somewhere to talk freely and work out what you think.
That's where counselling can be different.
With me, you don't need to protect someone else's feelings, worry about being judged, or listen to someone else's solution.
You can talk about what's really going on.
You can say things you've never said before.
And together, we can begin to understand what lies underneath what you're experiencing and what you might want to do next.
I won't tell you what decision to make.
We'll work together to help you find your own way forward.
