About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I鈥檓 Natalie, and I love helping people to find their way out of the exhausting people-pleasing anxiety cycle that鈥檚 holding them back.
For most of my life, I felt like my place in the world came from what I achieved or did for others, but I never felt like I was doing enough. The next thing I did or achieved would finally be the thing that would get me there.
It took working with a great counsellor to help me figure out how to just be myself, and that I am enough as I am.
Now, I work with people helping them figure out their 'shoulds' and how they show up in their life, because so often they're trying to live up to someone else's expectations instead of their own.
A lot of people come to me at breaking point: anxious, overwhelmed, and feeling like they're not good enough, even when they're giving it all they have.
It doesn't have to stay that way.
My aim as your counsellor is to give you space to slow down and reflect so you can have a chance to tell your story in your own time.
I will empathise and listen, but I will also gently challenge you if I think there might be something more we need to explore.
I offer a free 15-minute introductory call to see if we might be a good fit, with no obligation to book in for a first session.
Practice description
A quick overview鈥
What you might be going through:
- Telling everyone you feel 鈥渇ine鈥 when you feel like you鈥檙e going to fall apart.
- Feeling stressed on the way to work and overwhelmed by everything you need to do.
- Worrying what everyone thinks of you and feeling like you need everyone to like you and think you鈥檙e awesome.
- Evenings all blend into one, feeling like you鈥檝e never caught or done the right things
- You鈥檝e forgotten how to have fun and just be you.
How I help people:
- We鈥檒l talk through what feels like the biggest thing that鈥檚 on your mind.
- Break down how it鈥檚 affecting you, has something like this happened before, what barriers are there to change.
- If relevant, I鈥檒l explain what I know about why as humans, we might (or those around us) act the way we do.
- Attending therapy is going to help with momentum and change where it might have stalled with self-help books and podcasts. I鈥檓 there to help with accountability as well as support.
- I鈥檓 going to celebrate the moments when you start showing up in your life as you want to, not how you think you should, and stop taking on all the responsibility on your own.
What could a new chapter look like?
- Feeling more balanced and less overwhelmed by the world
- Knowing more about yourself
- Having fun, not just working 24/7
- Having the confidence to speak up about how you feel and feeling less guilty for doing so
- Feeling happier and more connected to your emotions, not feeling like they control you
- Experiencing relationships with healthy boundaries
- Feeling less like a burden when you鈥檙e the one who needs support
My first session
In our first session I like to explore what your aims are and to find out more about you, your life and what you feel like are the most important things for me to know.
In the next sessions, we will start moving deeper into how you feel, what hurdles you face, how things could be different and how we can help you reach those things. This might mean exploring your past, for example what your experience at school was like, or we might stay with what's happening in the present and how you'd like the future to be.
This is all done at your pace, if you're not ready to talk something through then it's ok to say no, not today, or not yet; we can talk around the edges, or change direction.
