About me and my therapy practice

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you can talk openly and feel supported. My aim is to listen with empathy, help you make sense of what you are experiencing, and work alongside you to find a clearer way forward.

I’m Jill, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with an MSc (Distinction) and a registered member of the Â鶹ԭ´´. Over the years  I have worked in private practice, voluntary organisations, higher education, NHS placements and online platforms. This breadth of experience allows me to adapt to the needs of many different people.

I also bring experience of supporting individuals and families adjusting after brain injury, as well as mentoring university students with mental health challenges. In both settings I have helped people manage pressures, build resilience and develop strategies for growth.

My approach is integrative: I draw on person-centred, CBT and solution-focused techniques, adapting each session to your individual needs. Some clients value practical tools to manage the here-and-now, while others prefer space for reflection and exploration. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings, recognise patterns, and work towards positive change at a pace that feels right for you.

Whatever brings you to counselling, I will meet you with warmth and understanding, and support you as you take the next step.

Practice description

You might have reached out because you’re feeling anxious, low in mood, under pressure, or simply stuck and unsure of the next step. Whatever your circumstances, my aim is to listen with care, help you make sense of your experiences, and support you in finding a clearer and more confident way forward.

My practice is calm, private and welcoming, offering a safe and confidential space to talk without judgement. Sessions last 50 minutes and are led at a pace that feels right for you. Some people want practical tools to manage immediate challenges; others value the space to explore deeper patterns and reflect on their experiences. I will work alongside you in a way that feels safe, respectful and empowering.

I offer flexibility in how we work together. You may choose short-term counselling to focus on a specific issue, or longer-term therapy to explore more deeply. We will regularly review our work so that it continues to meet your needs.

Accessibility and comfort are important to me. My premises are wheelchair accessible, with ample parking and a nearby bus stop. I also provide online and telephone counselling for those who prefer or require remote support, ensuring therapy is available in a way that works for you.

I work in line with the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework, which means your confidentiality, safety and wellbeing are always central to the process.

If you are considering counselling, please feel free to get in touch. I’d be glad to offer a free 15 minute consultation so you can ask questions and get a sense of how we might work together.

My first session

I understand that taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting, so our initial contact is designed to be as straightforward and supportive as possible. I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation before we begin, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, share a little about what brings you to counselling, and get a sense of how I work. There is no obligation to continue - it’s simply a chance to see if we might be a good fit.

If you decide to move forward, our first full session will last 50 minutes. We will spend time talking about what you would like to focus on, your hopes for counselling, and any concerns you may have. I will explain how I work, answer your questions, and outline practical details such as confidentiality, session arrangements, and fees.

The first session is also a space for us to begin building trust and rapport. You don’t need to come with everything figured out - sometimes people arrive with a very clear issue in mind, and sometimes it’s just a general feeling of being overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure. Either way, we can start from where you are.

At the end of the session we will reflect on how it felt and whether continuing together feels right for you. From there, we can discuss whether you’d prefer to begin with a short block of sessions, focus on a specific goal, or work in a more open-ended way.

My aim throughout is to create a calm, respectful and non-judgmental environment where you feel safe enough to talk, supported in exploring your experiences, and able to move forward at a pace that feels right for you.
