About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Kes (he/they).
I believe identity is shifting and fluid, but here are some words that might give you a sense of me: AuDHD, queer, goofy, working-class, slight Brummie accent, highly sensitive, creative, dreamer, philosopher, poet, performer, writer, permaculturist.
People often ask me why I became a counsellor.
The decision emerged after I was invited to help create an LGBTQ+ permaculture centre in the ‘Holy Land,’ where Israelis, Palestinians and internationals came together. The centre—mud huts, herb beds, fire pits—was eventually bulldozed by the Israeli government. But during those months I had the privilege of living among many nationalities and ethnicities, and I began to see how everyday struggles are often rooted in cultural tropes and ideals we unconsciously conform to.
When I returned to the UK in 2016, I enrolled in therapy training to help individuals liberate themselves from cultural baggage and dare to live authentically. Being a therapist means learning to move beyond my own conditioning and projections, so I can truly see and hear the person in front of me. Over the years, I’ve worked with many people and discovered that we are each far more extraordinary, ferocious, and tender than we might think ourselves to be.
Practice description
So, how do I work?
I’ve trained in multiple therapeutic approaches and explored their evidence, pitfalls, and gifts. There is no universal formula that works for everyone. That’s why I don’t assume the role of expert. Instead, I value co-creating collaborative relationships with my clients. Therapy is a space where we can reflect together, make sense of your circumstances, and explore ways forward.
You have always been you, through your childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Even if you were not speaking, acting or even thinking in alignment with your deeper self, even if you were misguided to behave differently, there was always You, deep down. It’s my role to assist you to re-discover who you are, and what you’re really like, and what motivates you. What you find will, I hope, be a homecoming, a reckoning, and most of all, a liberation.
Most people choose to attend therapy every one to three weeks for a period of three to six months.
Sessions last either 30 minutes (£40) or 50 minutes (£80). A limited number of sliding scale spaces may be available—please check the website for details.
Towards the end of therapy, we may move to occasional sessions until a natural ending feels right.
Alternatively, you might prefer to continue with regular check-ins over the longer term, for some extra support in your life.
Whatever rhythm you choose, therapy is always guided by your needs and what you feel would be most supportive for you.
