About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Jenny and I am Person-Centred counsellor working integratively and drawing on a range of skills and knowledge to help support my clients.
I work remotely via Zoom or telephone.
I offer concessions to students and Counsellors in training at 拢50/session. I am BUPA Registered.
I want to offer you a space where you can speak freely, to get closer to the truth of something. With fresh perspective on your struggles, I can help you find your way forward.
I am an inclusive practitioner, welcoming clients from all communities, offering a chance to reflect and explore with the aim of helping you find greater self-understanding, compassion, acceptance and growth.
I can help with a variety of issues, including:
Loss
Anxiety
Depression
Addiction
Self-esteem issues
Relationship issues (individuals only)
Student Mental Health
Painful family dynamics
I have been a volunteer teen mentor with the YMCA and worked as a volunteer counsellor at Catalyst Support, offering counselling to clients with addiction issues and their family members. Outside my private Practice, I also work for a Mental Health support charity. I work with young people, adults, University students and Counselling trainees.
About me
Originally from New Zealand, I have lived in the UK for over 20 years. I'm a huge believer in the healing power of nature, of which we are part.
I am interested in all philosophy and teachings that support our living more mindfully, kindly and peacefully.
I believe the mind and body cannot be separated and so to take care of one, we must also take care of the other.
Practice description
I draw from a range of knowledge and skills but always with the client's highest wellbeing and autonomy at the forefront of the work. I integrate a variety of theories into my work to help clients face their challenges most effectively.
Ultimately, we all know in our hearts what is right for our own lives, but we sometimes need someone else to help us uncover this. This is my role.
We can look at what is confusing or suppressed and help to uncover how it may be possible to find acceptance of the past and transform painful feelings into new hope. All human behaviour is understandable on some level, so we can also work to try to release shame and guilt that is being carried from the past.
My aim is to help you to uncover the root cause of what hurts. By doing this, over time we don't have to work so hard at finding coping mechanisms, to deal with symptoms of unprocessed pain. You can feel lighter, freer and less afraid, moving forward.
The existential element of my work can involve an opportunity for you to think about what your true values are, what holds meaning for you and how to live in accordance with these things. The more we are able to 鈥渦nmask鈥 and live in ways that are true to ourselves, the more we can notice that life flows more naturally and that symptoms of anxiety and depression may be lessened.
It may be that you don't know who you really are, so we can work together to uncover this, so you can find more joy and freedom in living.
My first session
In our first session we will run over the contract and talk about what to expect from our therapeutic relationship. Then we can discuss what you are hoping to gain from therapy and we can begin to explore the most pressing issue, straight away.
After the first session, it is fine for you to reflect on how you feel it went, and let me know if you'd like to continue working together. It's important to feel comfortable with your therapist to get the most out of therapy, so I'm happy for you to do one session initially, before you decide.
