About me and my therapy practice

I work with children using creative and play therapy, I have had training and experience of working with neuro diversity such as Autism and ADHD as well as behavioral difficulties. I have a safe space where children and young people can explore what is happening for them.

I use Drawing and Talking technique, mindfulness. I have trained to be integrative so I can use tools from various models of therapy to suit individual needs and work from a Person Centered model.

I work with children and young people at my office and with adults on the telephone or Whatsapp.

Practice description

At the office in the first session I meet with parent/carer and client to discuss your reasons for bringing your child/young person to therapy. We talk about any goals you may have and what you want therapy to achieve. After this discussion (10-15) minutes the session is continued with only the client. For children 11 and under parent/cares are required to remain on the premises, either in their car or outside the room. For young people 12 - 21 parents/ carers may leave and collect their young person when the session is finished (50 minutes later the session may go over this but not more than 10 minutes). I usually see children for 12 weeks, (not during school holidays). If you come during the school 6 week school break then there will be a 2 week break of your choice during this time or the sessions will start once the holiday period has ended.

The D&T is a 12-week course that allows you to process painful emotions in a manner that does not directly talk about problems. this is particularly beneficial for children and people who are unsure of the cause of their distress.

CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) looks at how thoughts impact behaviour.

SFT (solution focussed therapy) looks at exploring hope

I provide a safe space to talk confidentially, mindfulness is about being in the present moment, if we ponder our past or future we lose our present where we are and this can be a significant stress factor.

My first session

In the first session, we go through your needs and what you wish to gain from therapy. here you decide if you want the 12-week drawing and talking or the counselling alone.
