About me and my therapy practice

I'm Tilly, a Â鶹ԭ´´-registered psychotherapist offering psychodynamic therapy outdoors in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.

At Just Wandering Outdoor Therapy, nature is not an add-on to the work—it’s the foundation of everything I do.  Nature is not just a backdrop, but a co-therapist, offering space, perspective, and insight that can’t always be found in a traditional room.

Meeting outside allows the landscape itself to play an active part in your process, helping you explore thoughts and feelings with a sense of freedom and grounding. I bring over 25 years’ experience in environmental education, outdoor learning, wilderness therapy and youth work. This background enables me to combine the restorative qualities of nature with sound psychotherapeutic practice in a way that is safe, supportive and meaningful. As a qualified MLTB Mountain Leader, I can guide clients through natural spaces with care, so you can feel secure as you explore both your inner world and the environment around you.

I work with young people and adults facing a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties and major life changes. My psychodynamic approach recognises how early experiences and unconscious patterns influence how we relate to ourselves and others. Working outdoors can bring these patterns to light, using the landscape as a mirror for reflection and understanding.

My background also shapes the way I work. Coming from a working-class family and having experienced racialisation, I have a deep appreciation of how identity, belonging and marginalisation affect our sense of self. These experiences ground my practice in empathy, respect and a down-to-earth understanding of life’s complexities.

I strive to create an inclusive, welcoming space where every voice and identity is valued.

Practice description

At Just Wandering Outdoor Therapy, I provide psychodynamic outdoor psychotherapy designed to support deeper self-understanding and lasting change.

This approach combines psychodynamic therapy with the calming, regulative presence of the natural environment. Rooted in the understanding that unconscious patterns and early relational experiences shape current behaviour and emotional life, psychodynamic therapy supports insight, emotional processing, and long-term growth.

As we walk, sit, or simply breathe outdoors, we create space to gently explore your inner world — using nature’s metaphors to illuminate feelings, relationships, and experiences that might otherwise remain hidden. Meeting outdoors allows nature to act as a co-therapist — offering a grounding, spacious setting in which to explore complex feelings, relational dynamics, and the deeper layers of your inner experience.

Outdoor therapy offers a different kind of setting—one that invites movement, fresh air, and the calming rhythm of the natural world. Whether walking side by side or settling in a peaceful spot, these sessions create space for reflection, connection, and healing in a way that feels grounded and open.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and takes place at the same time and in the same location each week—chosen by you. You also decide the pace and the direction we move in, both physically and emotionally. Whether that means walking, sitting, or simply being, the session unfolds in a way that feels right for you.

This approach can be especially helpful if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply drawn to being outside. There’s no pressure to perform or be a certain way—just a chance to be yourself, supported by a compassionate therapist and the natural world around you.

All bodies, identities, and life experiences are welcome here. Nature meets you exactly where you are—and so do I.

My first session

First Sessions: Online and Outdoors Consultation

Your first session is a 50-minute online meeting where we’ll explore your current challenges and your connection to nature. We’ll also plan your next session together. The second session will be outdoors, in a location you choose—giving you a chance to experience how we work, set therapy goals, and build trust in a natural setting.

We’ll have a clear foundation to build on, and you’ll have the freedom to decide if continuing the work feels right for you.

The Work

There’s no fixed timeline for this work—it’s a process of ongoing discovery. Some clients come for a short period during a time of transition, while others stay longer to explore deeper patterns. However long you choose to continue, the aim is to support your growth in a way that feels steady, meaningful, and rooted in your lived experience.

Through ongoing dialogue and reflection, we’ll explore recurring themes, emotional blocks, and relational patterns that may be holding you back. This process helps you develop greater self-awareness and emotional insight, paving the way for meaningful and lasting change.

You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. The work unfolds gradually, through conversation, reflection, and a growing sense of connection—with yourself, with the therapy, and with the natural world around you.

About me and my therapy practice

I’m a COSCA- qualified clinical supervisor offering reflective, relational supervision online, outdoors, or through a combination of the two.

For therapists working primarily in traditional settings—whether in-person or online—I offer a contained and attuned supervisory space to explore clinical material, process dynamics, transference and countertransference, and the evolving demands of therapeutic work.

My approach is informed by psychodynamic thinking, with attention to unconscious process, relational depth, and the importance of the supervisory relationship as a space for holding and meaning-making.

For those interested in taking their practice outdoors, or already working in nature-based ways, I offer supervision that integrates an understanding of the unique complexities of outdoor therapy—such as shifts in frame and boundary, risk and ethics, projection onto place, and the relational impact of working in and with the natural world.

Outdoor supervision can also serve as a powerful reminder of what it’s like to be held—not only by the supervisory relationship, but by the landscape itself.
