About me and my therapy practice

Many (not all) of the people I work with look like they鈥檙e doing well on the outside.

They may be progressing in their career, building a business, working in tech, engineering or creative industries and yet privately feel anxious, burned out or quietly struggling, dissatisfied or relying on unhealthy or destructive habits and behaviours.

You might recognise yourself in some of this:

鈥 Your mind doesn鈥檛 switch off or you struggle to get going

鈥 You hold yourself to high standards (and then move the goalposts).

鈥 Achieved things and felt strangely flat afterwards.

鈥 You struggle to say no without guilt and then resent having said yes.

鈥 You feel pressure to keep performing.

鈥 Think, 鈥淚 shouldn鈥檛 really need therapy鈥 but something鈥檚 not right.鈥

I work particularly (but not exclusively) with men aged 25 - 50, professionals, founders and those navigating ambition, responsibility and identity.

A bit about me

I鈥檓 an empathic, energetic and highly motivated therapist who genuinely enjoys helping people think differently about themselves and their lives. I like depth, I like clarity, and I like when appropriate having a laugh.

I also enjoy working creatively and thinking outside the box. Therapy doesn鈥檛 have to be formulaic. Sometimes a fresh angle or a bit of humour can unlock hours of overthinking.

I have undertaken many years of personal therapy myself and know what it is like to sit in the client chair.I am a father and understand the complexity of modern parenting, including the strange world of screens, social media and online influence.

Alongside my clinical training, I have experience in entrepreneurship in several sectors. I understand the psychology of risk, performance, comparison and pressure and how easy it is to tie your worth to output.

Outside of clinical work I value time in nature, sport, creativity and enjoy running businesses.

Practice description

I tailor the work to you rather than applying an approach to you.

Therapy with me is a process of discovery, gaining insight (those 鈥渁ha鈥 moments), feeling your way through what鈥檚 difficult, and doing that work within a genuinely relational space. At its best, it can feel like a grand adventure.

I will listen carefully and might share what I see going on between us in the room. I will also gently challenge you when appropriate. I have a reasonably well developed 鈥淏S meter鈥 especially for the stories we tell ourselves. This isn鈥檛 confrontational. It鈥檚 collaborative. If something doesn鈥檛 quite add up, we鈥檒l look at it together.

Clients often appreciate that our work includes:

鈥 Depth as well as practicality

鈥 Exploration of inner dialogue including self-criticism and perfectionism

鈥 Honest conversations about ambition, masculinity, vulnerability, anger, fear and identity

鈥 Clear reflection without unnecessary psychobabble

And yes, there鈥檚 room for humour. Growth doesn鈥檛 require permanent seriousness.

Where helpful, I share practical tools and frameworks you can apply in real life whether that鈥檚:

鈥 Setting clearer boundaries without over explaining

鈥 Understanding conflict patterns

鈥 Managing anxious spirals

鈥 Communicating more directly

鈥 Interrupting self-sabotaging habits

Insight is powerful.

Integration changes behaviour.

The goal isn鈥檛 just to understand yourself - it might be to live more consciously, intentionally and meaningfully.

A snippet about how we might work - e.g Addiction

We explore:

鈥 What the behaviour gives you

鈥 What it protects you from feeling

鈥 What happens in the gap before you reach for it

Whether it鈥檚 alcohol, work, porn, gaming or endlessly refreshing email, these patterns often start as coping strategies that quietly become automatic.

There鈥檚 NO shaming in my approach. Instead, we get curious.

We look at what part of you is seeking relief and what other ways that part might be cared for without blowing up your sleep, relationships or self-respect.

My first session

What to Expect

After our initial 30 minute introductory call, if we decide to work together, we鈥檒l arrange a first full session.

Before we meet, you鈥檒l complete a short form and receive a brief therapeutic agreement. We鈥檒l spend a few minutes at the start going through this, it's nothing daunting, just making sure we both understand confidentiality, boundaries and how we鈥檒l work together. Clear agreements tend to make for clearer thinking.

The first session is slightly more structured than later ones. I鈥檒l ask questions to build a picture of your life, the past and in the present to understand what鈥檚 brought you here now. It鈥檚 not an interrogation; it鈥檚 more about orienting ourselves properly before we begin.

You can talk about anything. You don鈥檛 need to arrive with a perfectly organised narrative. Most people don鈥檛. Real life rarely presents itself in tidy bullet points.

You鈥檙e welcome to ask questions at any point about the process, about how I work, or about anything that feels unclear. That鈥檚 true not just in the first session, but throughout our work together. Therapy works best when it鈥檚 collaborative and transparent.

By the end of the session, we鈥檒l have a clearer sense of what you鈥檇 like to focus on and whether short-term, focused work or longer-term exploration feels appropriate. I may offer an indication of how long the work could take, though therapy doesn鈥檛 always follow a neat timeline. Human beings have a habit of being more complex than that.

If you鈥檙e used to handling things alone, the first session can feel like a significant step.

A degree of awkwardness at the beginning is entirely normal. It usually settles quickly.
