Practice description
I practice in an integrative way. This means I am trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches, and will combine these in which ever way best suits you. This approach acknowledges you as a unique individual and allows me to be more flexible and responsive to your needs.
Regardless of what brings you to therapy, several principles underpin my approach.
• I will always be honest and open with you
• I will always treat you as the expert on you - and never assume I know better
• I will not judge, no matter what you bring to session
• I will work to ensure you always feel supported, heard and safe to work through whatever comes up
The goal of therapy is not that you receive coaching, advice or a ‘fix’ for your struggles. It is that you gain confidence in your own abilities, build autonomy, feel better equipped to cope with the challenges life presents, and to stand with confidence in your own unique story.
For many years - prior to training as a domestic violence support worker and then as a therapist - I worked as a marketing and communications consultant, helping businesses to shape and tell great stories about their products and services and to forge lasting relationships with customers.
Since training to be a therapist, I now work with clients as they explore and make sense of their own unique life stories, support them as develop new levels of self-awareness, make positive change, and enjoy more balanced, healthy relationships (with themselves and others) as a result.
My first session
In our first session, we’ll start by agreeing on how we’ll work together - including confidentiality, boundaries, and practicalities like cancellations - to make sure you feel safe and supported.
Once that’s covered, I’ll invite you to begin wherever feels right for you. There’s no pressure to know exactly what to say, we’ll take things at your pace. Together, we’ll explore what brings you to counselling and what you’d like to get from our time together.
You might want to talk about specific challenges, such as grief, relationship difficulties, or stress, or you may wish to explore feelings, patterns, or experiences from your past. Whatever you choose to bring, this is your space to talk, reflect, and begin making sense of what’s happening for you.
