About me and my therapy practice
Hey there, My name is Asha.
Thank you for taking the time to engage with my profile. I have been practising for several years as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor, (MSc Person-Centred Psychotherapy) and hold UKCP and Â鶹Դ´ reg'd membership. I am a Guest Lecturer (University of Leeds) teaching concepts to Masters level students based on my research concepts, Chapter Contributor in Person-Centred textbooks, (PCCS Books) and an Independent Associate Practitioner at Rutland House Counselling & Psychotherapy.
What does Person-Centred Therapy mean?
At the heart of my practice, I believe it is the therapeutic relationship that heals. I offer a safe, confidential and accepting space whereby you the client feels understood in an honest and collaborative manner enabling you to process and understand thoughts, emotions and behaviours. This trusting and freeing environment can help clients to determine effective strategies and space to gain understanding and develop a compassionate dialogue.
I am fortunate to work with clients from many walks of life, using the space to explore relationship difficulty, (relationship endings, infidelity, abuse, divorce), grief and diagnosed or suspected process such as, anxiety, depression and neurodivergence.
I strongly believe, the inner dialogue that we offer ourselves matters. At the heart of my therapeutic work is you. Does trauma, grief or anxiety steer you away from where you are striving towards? I understand sharing these experiences can be overwhelming and/or uncomfortable. Both!
I have supported many adult clients experiencing many psychological and somatic (physical), life transitions and identity matters. There is an increasing number of women who approach me with issues such as perimenopause, menopause, pregnancy, pre-and-post natal, being a single parent.
My hopes are that during and by the end of your course of therapy you will experience clarity, acceptance and techniques that truly empower and enable your specific needs.
Practice description
What to expect? You will be offered a 15 minute telephone consultation. During this time you will experience a sense of the manner in which I practice.
I maintain an active, genuine open stance and will all answer any questions you may have. We will determine how therapy may benefit you and what your outcomes of therapy are. For some, therapy sessions may be a confidential, safe space to express freely. Alternatively, it can be an intentional space that centralises on developing effective and healthy coping mechanisms. No two client experiences will be the same.
Through an assessment process, we will co-create a map of intention, collaboratively developing ideas how to work together. I
I encourage clients to engage in weekly sessions for a minimum of six weeks this is so that we can begin to develop a trusting and effective alliance. I will illuminate patterns of thought and emotion and validate your authentic voice away from judgment and expectation.
My intentions are to empower and strengthen your belief system and the way you feel. Intermittent reviews of our work together can help identify what is beneficial to you.Together, we can move towards defining your unique pathway of change. Identifying what is healing and helpful and how you might want circumstances to be different.
I offer the following confidential modes of therapy, in-person sessions at my private practice that is easily accessible via public transport, online therapy via zoom and via telephone.
My first session
As a trainee counselling and psychotherapy student and Guest Lecturer (University Leeds), I understand the demands of balancing life and academic demands.
I encourage trainee counselling and psychotherapy students embarking on academic activity to reach out. I can help you. I am passionate about promoting ethical and inclusive practice for students and clients, At The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute I was an active member of the Unity Group promoting research ethics and visibility.
Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity are harnessed in my clinical practice and research contributions. I will adjust the way I work to honour your identity, relationships and family as they are experienced by you. I have a continued interest supporting clients who straddle multicultural and/or dual heritage identity. I understand navigating through majority and minority groups can be confusing and lonely. Many clients value bringing spirituality and religion into our work together and in a respectful way, I will be alongside you.
Student members in many subjects have benefited from gaining support in numerous ways. Talking about your fears and experiences can provide relief and help you to navigate through what is challenging. It is a valuable opportunity to develop healthy ways of coping and supporting your unique learning process.
