About me and my therapy practice

Knocking on a therapist's door can feel unnerving. It is also the first step in overcoming your fears.

We all have anxieties, concerns and experiences that can be difficult to talk about. I offer a confidential space and a calm presence in which you can explore any personal issues free of judgment. My aim is that you feel listened to, heard and understood, and find the inner strength to overcome your difficulties.

In an ideal world each one of us would feel unconditionally loved and accepted, free to be fully and openly ourselves, able to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with others and eager to explore the world around us. We would be trauma free. The reality is that many of us have had challenging experiences in our lives and as a result we carry inner hurts and wounds.

Therapy can help us to search for the roots of our pain and know that there is nothing intrinsically "wrong" with us. Over time, we put down new, healthy roots that will nourish and re-energise us. We can strengthen our sense of who we are and explore and express what we want and what we need from others. We can improve our relationships and the way that we think and feel about ourselves. We can embark on implementing the changes that we wish to make in our lives.

I was employed for two years by a leading UK mental health organisation as a counsellor and coordinator of the counselling service in a large sixth-form college. I also have 18 months' experience offering IAPT counselling (as offered by the NHS).

Prior to training as a counsellor I worked as a teacher in a number of secondary schools and sixth form colleges. I have extensive safeguarding and pastoral experience. I have also worked as a writer and editor and I have lived and worked in East and West Europe and in South and Southeast Asia.

Practice description

I am an experienced integrative counsellor and psychosexual and relationship psychotherapist qualified to work with adults, couples, young people and children aged 14+. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

I work relationally, and the therapeutic relationship that we build is at the heart of our work together. I aim to establish a relationship that feels accepting, non-judgmental and warm, where you feel able to talk in confidence about issues, experiences and feelings that you may not feel able to speak about elsewhere. I am trauma-informed and work in a somatic way; we will look together at ways to re-regulate your nervous system and, where this is found helpful, use visualisation as a healing tool.

I am an EMDR practitioner.  I am also fully trained in Pesso Boyden Somatic Psychotherapy (PBSP), a mind-body approach that addresses attachment issues and trauma.

I work with adults and young people looking for support with  relationship issues, sexual trauma, family breakdown and divorce, low self-esteem or self-confidence, social anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, suicidal ideation, anger, feeling overwhelmed or worthless, isolation, self-harm, anxiety and depression. I welcome neurodiverse clients and I have a good understanding of ADHD. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Â鶹ԭ´´) and a registered member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and I follow their ethical codes. Your privacy is important to me; I adhere to GDPR regulations and I am registered with the ICO, which promotes data privacy.

About me and my therapy practice

In an ideal world each one of us would feel unconditionally loved and accepted, free to be fully and openly ourselves, able to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with others and keen to explore the world around us. We would be trauma free.

The reality is that many of us have had challenging experiences in our lives and as a result we carry inner hurts and wounds that can be difficult to talk about, or we may be unaware of their full impact on us.

I offer a confidential space where you can explore any personal issues free of judgment and feel listened to, heard and understood. This can help you to make the choices and changes that allow you to overcome difficulties and move forward with your life, strengthening your sense of who you are and exploring and expressing what you want and need from others.

I currently work in private practice. Previously I was employed by a leading UK mental health organisation as a counsellor and counselling service coordinator in a large sixth-form college. I also have experience offering IAPT counselling (as offered by the NHS).

I am a secondary school teacher, and prior to working as a counsellor I taught in a range of schools and sixth-form colleges. I have extensive safeguarding and pastoral experience. I have also worked as a writer and editor and I have lived and worked in East and West Europe and in South and Southeast Asia.

I aim to establish a relationship that feels accepting, non-judgmental and warm, where you can speak in confidence about issues, experiences and feelings that you may not feel able to voice elsewhere.

With couples, we work together to identify the negative cycles that are co-created and to promote understanding of each partner's needs, leading to de-escalation and, in time, re-connection. We can also address any issues you have with your sexual relationship.

I am trained in Pesso Boyden Somatic Psychotherapy (PBSP), a mind-body approach that addresses trauma and attachment issues. We can integrate aspects of this into our work or hold a separate PBSP session.

I work with adults and young people who have experienced bereavement, family breakdown and divorce, relationship issues, low self-esteem, social anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, feeling overwhelmed or worthless, self-harm, anxiety and depression. Your privacy is important to me and I adhere to GDPR regulations and am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office). I am fully insured and have regular, specialist supervision.

I work predominantly face-to-face in my counselling rooms near Kings Cross. I also see clients online via Zoom if this medium is preferred.
