About me and my therapy practice
I provide counselling and psychotherapy for anyone experiencing emotional or psychological challenges during the perinatal period — from conception and pregnancy, through birth, and up to two years after giving birth. I also offer continued, open-ended therapy beyond this time where it feels helpful and appropriate for you.
You may be navigating this journey alone, or within a heterosexual or same-sex relationship. You may be a mother, father or caregiver who is struggling during this stage of life. Whatever your circumstances, identity or family structure, you are welcome here. My aim is to offer a safe, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where we can explore your experience together, at your pace.
My core therapeutic approach is psychoanalytic in nature. This approach recognises that pregnancy, birth and early parenthood can stir up powerful emotions and unresolved experiences from earlier life, often linked to our own childhood and relationships. These unconscious processes can shape how we think, feel and relate in the present, sometimes in ways that feel unfamiliar or difficult to understand.
Through counselling and psychotherapy, we work to bring these less conscious aspects of experience into awareness. This can support a deeper understanding of yourself, help make sense of current difficulties, and open up the possibility of change — allowing you to relate to yourself and others in ways that feel more fulfilling and authentic.
Practice description
Pregnancy and parenthood are often portrayed as natural, joyful and instinctive experiences. While this may be true for some, many people find this period brings distressing experiences, thoughts, feelings and emotions that can feel confusing, overwhelming or isolating — especially when they don’t match what we believe we should be feeling.
I offer a safe, thoughtful and non-judgemental space for us to explore your experience together.
I provide counselling for anyone experiencing difficulties related to the following areas:
- Trying to Conceive/Infertility/IVF
- Miscarriage/Baby Loss/Still Birth
- Pregnancy
- Birth Trauma
- Postnatal and Early Parenthood
- Termination of Pregnancy/Abortion
Whatever your circumstances in this period of life, I encourage you to get in touch so we can discuss your individual needs.
My first session
If you are interested in counselling or psychotherapy, please get in touch to arrange an initial consultation. The consultation lasts up to 60 minutes and provides an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy, alongside relevant aspects of your past and present life experiences. It is also a space for you to ask questions about the therapeutic process and how we might work together. During this time, we will consider whether counselling or psychotherapy with me feels like the right fit for you. Where appropriate, I may recommend alternative or additional forms of support.
Following the initial consultation, we can establish a framework of therapy to suit your needs. This generally takes the form of weekly sessions, lasting 50 minutes in length.
