I offer counselling slots Tuesday to Thursday 10am -4pm. I work ONLINE and face to face from my therapy room in Glossop, Derbyshire.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Rebecca and I specialise in anxiety and self esteem. I work with people who seem capable and confident to others, yet inside live with a constant fear of disapproval and quiet anxiety affecting all areas of life.
Does this sound familiar?
In your social life, you spiral if texts go unanswered, wondering "what have I done?" and feel a sense of dread in the chest that people are mad at you.
You're preoccupied with what everyone thinks of you, analysing social interactions, trying to be what everyone wants you to be and wondering whether you're "too much" or "not enough".
If people cancel or seem off with you it can feel like a punch in the gut. You're desperate for reassurance but feel ashamed for being needy.
At work, you'll assume you're in trouble if your boss wants to speak to you, you can't set bounderies because of fear of judgment from colleagues and daren't make a mistake in case people think you're bad at your job.
You strive for perfection to escape the nagging feeling of not being good enough but it never goes away. You scroll to distract yourself, but compare yourself to others and feel worse — reinforcing the belief that everyone else finds life and relationships easier than you do.
At home you feel responsible for everyone else's happiness, prioritising their needs above your own. This leaves you resentful and overwhelmed, and you know something needs to change, but you don't know how to say no without feeling like a terrible person.
Many of the clients I work with carry wounds from childhood where they never felt enough, couldn't rely on adults around them to meet their needs or felt it was their job to make everyone else happy and manage emotions.
In therapy, we work collaboratively to understand where these patterns come from and help you create new ones that work for you, this may involve processing traumatic events and beliefs that are hard to shift.
Practice description
I am trained in a variety of proven and practical approaches which are particularly useful for low self esteem and anxiety. I love working with people who are committed to change by implementing the tools I offer.
These includes CBT to help you generate more helpful ways of looking at things, Mindfulness to help you regulate anxiety and overthinking and Compassion Based Approaches to cultivate kindness instead of self criticism.
You can start using these tools straight away to reduce anxiety but also work towards lasting changes. Clients that work with me feel: calmer and more confident in daily life, more comfortable in their own skin and more secure in relationships. They’re also able to prioritise themselves more without fear of disapproval, be more present and joyful in life and have a better work life balance.
I am also trained in EMDR so that we can identify and process significant events from your past which are keeping you unstuck in unhealthy patterns - so you can build the future you want based on positive self beliefs
My first session
Before you decide to work with me I offer a free 25 min consultation.
If you feel we are a good fit then the first session is spent exploring in depth the thoughts and feelings impacting on your daily life. We will also explore what events might have happened in the past which is causing the current challenges and agree specific goals to work towards.
Each session I will send guided practices and resources so that you can work on yourself in between sessions and beyond.
