About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Mikko Hung, and I'm a Hongkonger.

You may be going through a time of change, stress, or uncertainty. Perhaps you feel anxious, low, or unsure of yourself, or are experiencing challenges with relationships, family, or communication. Some clients come to therapy because of grief, trauma, or a sense of being stuck, while others seek support for their children or teenagers who are struggling emotionally or at school. Above all, you may be looking for understanding and the possibility of positive change.

I am an accredited therapist with a background in counselling and social work, holding a Master of Social Science in Counselling and an MSc in Social Work. I work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, providing sensitive, inclusive, and non-judgemental support.

Over the years, I have supported a wide range of communities, including single parents, ethnic minorities, and people living with HIV. More recently, I have worked extensively with Hong Kong new migrants in the UK, supporting individuals, couples, families, children, and teenagers. Many of my clients face challenges such as cultural adjustment, identity loss, family conflicts, communication difficulties, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relationship struggles.

Through therapy, I help clients explore these challenges, reconnect with themselves, and find ways to cope, adapt, and thrive in this new chapter of their lives. Your goals may be to regain balance, strengthen relationships, build confidence, or simply find a safe space to talk openly.

Practice description

As an integrative therapist with a person-centred foundation, I draw on skills and techniques from a range of therapeutic approaches, tailoring them to meet each client’s unique needs. I aim to create a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can feel truly heard, understood, and supported in exploring what matters most to you.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and flexible, whether you are looking for short-term therapy to address specific challenges or longer-term support for deeper personal growth. I offer sessions in English and Cantonese, and I am committed to working with people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, and sexual orientations.

I strive to provide therapy that is responsive, empathetic, and practical, helping you develop insight, resilience, and strategies to cope with life’s difficulties, while supporting you to reconnect with your strengths and move forward in a way that feels right for you.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation online (via Google Meet, Teams, Zoom or phone), giving you the chance to find out more about how therapy works and how I may be able to support you.

The relationship between us is at the heart of successful therapy, so it is important that you feel comfortable and that we both feel we can work together. During this first session, you are welcome to ask any questions, share a little about what brings you to therapy, and get a sense of my approach.

There is no obligation to continue after this initial meeting — it is simply an opportunity for us to see whether I am the right therapist for you. If you decide to move forward, we can discuss how best to structure the follow-up sessions to suit your needs.
