About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Michael Blades.

I’m a registered psychotherapist, a full member of the UKCP, and a member of the Â鶹ԭ´´ (MÂ鶹ԭ´´).

I work with adults who find themselves under psychological or emotional strain — whether that shows up as anxiety, low mood, repeating patterns, or a growing sense that something in their inner life needs attention. Many people come to therapy at points where the way they have been living or coping no longer feels sustainable, even if they continue to function well on the outside.

My work is depth-oriented and relational. I’m interested in how emotional experience, relationships, personal history and questions of meaning shape how you live and make choices. Therapy offers a place to slow things down, think more clearly, and understand what needs attention, without pressure to reach quick solutions or fixed outcomes.

Alongside private work, I also work with people in demanding professional roles. In some cases therapy is funded by an employer, while remaining individual, confidential and independent. I also provide training therapy for trainee counsellors and psychotherapists.

I offer both short- and longer-term therapy, in person in Middlesbrough and online, from a private and accessible practice space at Acklam Hall.

If you’d like to explore whether working together would feel right, you’re welcome to get in touch.

Practice description

I work with adults who want to engage thoughtfully with their inner world. This includes people experiencing anxiety, identity concerns, emotional overwhelm or numbness, long-standing patterns, or periods of transition where familiar ways of living no longer feel sufficient.

My style suits those who value a calm, reflective process and who are drawn to working at depth, whether they are coming in a personal capacity, through work-related pressures, or as part of their professional training.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity for us to meet, talk about what brings you to therapy, and get a sense of whether working together feels right. It’s a gentle introduction rather than an assessment or test — a space where you can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
