About me and my therapy practice
Hello. My name is Joanne, and I am a therapist who helps people to improve how they communicate in relationships, reduce their worry/anxiety levels, recover from depression, and/or navigate their way through painful feelings from bereavement and loss.
You may be seeking therapy because you feel like you are in crisis and cannot cope. You may be unable to stop yourself from worrying or be struggling with low mood or a lack of confidence. Or perhaps you're seeking therapy as a consequence of a specific long-term problem or childhood trauma. You might feel that you are struggling to keep up, in a world that is rapidly changing around you. If so, I provide a confidential space where I will listen to you without judgement and support you as we work through any challenges from the past and/or in the present, together.
I have NHS experience from working in an IAPT Centre, where I provided psychotherapeutic counselling to adults in West London. Consequently, I have worked with people from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of mental health issues. These include anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, bereavement/loss, low self-esteem, sexuality, work-related issues, pet bereavement, and anger management. I now run my own successful private practice.
I have a lot of experience helping university students, struggling with constant pressure to succeed, financial worry, and/or low confidence, as well as helping academics that are facing ever-increasing workloads, research pressures, and/or job insecurity.
I also specialise in working with pet bereavement, and I am a registered member of the Association of Pet Bereavement Counsellors.
Regardless of the cause of your suffering, as a human being you are entitled to lead a happy and fulfilling life. My role is to help you achieve that, and to help you free yourself from the psychological shackles of modern-day living.
Practice description
My background is in Higher Education. I worked as a teacher and academic before I retrained as a psychotherapeutic counsellor, so I could help people to live a better life.
I am an accredited member of the Â鶹Դ´. I am qualified in both integrative psychotherapeutic counselling and CBT. I am qualified in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) which is an evidenced based approach for working with depression, and this is endorsed by the NHS. I am a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) and I am able to draw upon various techniques to work with adverse childhood experience and PTSD. These include using the rewind technique to treat PTSD. I am also a qualified pet bereavement counsellor.
I offer integrative psychotherapeutic counselling to provide the necessary conditions for healing, personal development and growth. I also offer trauma focussed therapy, as well as CBT which can help you to become your own therapist, by learning how to recognise and change your own automatic thoughts and behaviours. CBT is particularly effective for reducing anxiety.
In most cases I will suggest using somatic activities/exercises to help regulate your autonomic nervous system (ANS). These are evidence based neurological practices that I use alongside the aforementioned therapeutic approaches.
Once we start working together, I will suggest regular reviews of our progress. These reviews will use NHS approved mental health audit tools to guide us to a successful outcome.
My first session
I offer a free telephone session where we can explore your hopes and goals for therapy. I can also answer any questions you might have about me or my practice, and we can work out how we might work together.
In the first instance, you may want to commit to a limited number of sessions, or you may want a more open-ended approach. We can discuss this in our initial session.

Supervisor - London
Features
- Flexible hours available
Availability
I offer one-to-one and group supervision. Sessions are £45 for 60 minutes or £60 for 90 minutes.
My group fee is £25 for a 2-hour session. I offer a bundle that includes one group session and one 30-minute one-to-one session for £50 (subject to availability). I also offer a reduced rate to trainees.
About me and my therapy practice
I use the seven-eye supervision model to inform my supervisory practice. This allows us to pay special attention to the client-counsellor and supervisor-supervisee relationships, as well to the other important aspects of supervision that include client presentations, counsellor interventions, CPD/training, legal support, emotional support, and other institutional factors.
We do not practice in a vacuum, and I feel that it is important to explore potential unconscious processes in a non-judgemental and supportive space. I will provide this for you.
I have experience of working with counsellors from a variety of modalities and at various developmental stages. I have worked with newly qualified counsellors, and I have helped them to establish a successful private practice. I have also worked with more experienced counsellors who have been practicing for a lot longer than me. I have worked with counsellors that are entirely in private practice and those that are juggling a portfolio that includes paid and unpaid employment. I also have experience of counselling for IAPT.
Practice description
We can start to explore your individual supervisory needs in an introductory phone call. So for example, I do not work with children, and therefore I would be unable to supervise any work that involves clients that are aged under 18. However, I do work with students in higher education.
If we decide to work together, we can explore your specific needs in much more detail during our first session. These might include specific ways of working or an explicit client base. You might like to work creatively or be very person centred. I am flexible and open to new ways of working. I initially trained as an integrative therapist, using Clarkson's framework to integrate person centred and psychodynamic approaches. However, I am also trained to work using CBT and Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD). I am a certified trauma professional, and I am trained to work with the Rewind approach (for PTSD) as well as with somatic interventions. I am also a qualified and certified pet bereavement counsellor.
In our first session together, we can also decide on how we exchange relational feedback, so we can reflect on the process. I want your supervision to be everything it should be. Supportive, informative, gently challenging, and an overall pleasant experience for both of us.
My first session
I offer a free no-obligation phone call to explore whether we would be a good fit for each other.
We can also explore any contractual issues. For example, these might apply to clients that you bring from an agency. We may need to establish a three-way contract depending on your agency's specific supervisory requirements.
