About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is a confidential space to talk about and explore any issues that are causing you difficulty in your life. This can be something that has been troubling you for a while, or something that’s happened recently. Whatever it may be, counselling is a talking therapy that lets you have time and space to explore.

Counselling works, not by fixing people, but by supporting you through your own truths and aiding you to trust and understand yourself. It is an entirely safe space where you can truly be listened to.

Counselling with someone not involved in your normal life creates a powerful experience which can lead to profound and lasting positive change in your life.

I offer a totally non- judgemental space and the time is there to do what you want to with it; some weeks you may want to sit in silence, to work creatively to express yourself, to cry, to talk.

As a person-centred therapist, I believe you are the expert in your own life, and that my role is to walk alongside you, helping you discover the strategies, tools and coping mechanisms that exist within you. My desire is to understand and empathise with what you are going through, to give you as much time as you need to explore what’s going on for you and to work together to provide some answers. I use integrative methods as appropriate, so there may be times when it feels useful to use things from other counselling methods.

I work openly and honestly and aim to have a transparent relationship. We will have informal check-in points, where we can both talk openly and safely about how things are going and if you are happy. I offer empathy and warmth, but I am also direct and honest and open and will challenge and enquire if I see things that feel like they need to be explored.

Practice description

You can expect a totally safe environment working with me. I offer a completely non-judgemental space and so this allows you to bring anything you want to into the room.

I come from a business background and so can work in a  solutions focused way for those that prefer this approach, whilst maintaining my person centred roots, which encourage you to lead the way in terms of your journey  in the therapy room.

I am highly flexible and many people I work with are shift workers,  students or working, so I can work around your needs and many people don’t stick to the same session  time each week. I am happy to work around your needs.

I understand that it can feel overwhelming to ask for help. I aim to provide a relationship that is healing, helpful and equips you with the tools, greater understanding and knowledge of yourself to live your life in the way that feels best for you.

I encourage you to call and have a chat initially to get a sense of who I am and how I work. My couples work is more structured and directive and usually has work set outside of the therapy room, and my individual work goes at the pace that you desire.

My first session

Getting to know each other

The first session is about us getting to know each other, and to have space to ask any questions you may have, or talk about any fears or worries around counselling. It can be useful to find out a little about what brought you to counselling too, although I understand it can feel very difficult to open up to a stranger when you first meet, so we go at the pace that you are comfortable with. I often speak to clients before our first session on the phone; and am happy to have a short chat to ensure I can help you and that you get to speak to me and get a feel for how I work.

I am always keen to help people live their happiest lives, so it can be good to get started as soon as you are ready to begin and, often, the work starts the moment you begin talking.
