About me and my therapy practice

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes life has become overwhelming after a difficult or unexpected experience. Other times, life may be very different from how it once was, yet you still find yourself repeating familiar patterns, struggling in relationships or reacting in ways that no longer seem to fit the present.

I believe our ways of coping often make sense in the context of what we’ve lived through. Therapy offers a space to slow down, become curious about your experiences and understand yourself with greater compassion, rather than judgement.

I am an integrative psychotherapist with over 17 years’ experience supporting teenagers, young adults and parents across education, counselling, mental health and psychotherapy. My work is informed by both professional training and lived experience. While many things can be understood through study, others are only truly understood through experience.

Together, we’ll make sense of your experiences and explore what moving forward might look like for you.

Practice description

No two people experience life in the same way, so I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all. I adapt our work to your individual needs, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches alongside creative ways of working where they feel helpful.

Some people come to therapy looking for a space to reflect. Others want to understand themselves more deeply, be challenged or work actively between sessions. Together, we’ll find an approach that feels right for you. This may involve conversation, practical reflections, creative exploration or simply taking the time to notice things that have previously gone unseen.

Whether we’re making sense of a significant life event, longstanding patterns or where you find yourself today, my role is to help you understand yourself more fully. I believe that as our understanding grows, we often discover new possibilities for responding to ourselves, our relationships and the world around us.

Our work will always move at a pace that feels safe, collaborative and respectful of where you are.

My first session

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so I aim to make the first session feel as comfortable and welcoming as possible.

Rather than a formal assessment, I see the first session as the beginning of a conversation. We’ll build on anything we’ve discussed during our initial phone call, explore what has brought you to therapy and check in with how you’re feeling that day. There is no expectation to tell your whole story or have everything figured out.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, get a sense of how I work and decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you. If we choose to continue working together, we’ll think together about what you hope to gain from therapy and shape our work around your needs. For some people, that includes reflections or practical exercises between sessions; for others, therapy is simply a place to think, feel and make sense of their experiences.
