About me and my therapy practice
Life can throw many different challenges for us to make our way through. It can leave us feeling lost, anxious, stuck, guilty, or frustrated.
These feelings can be hard to share with those around us, perhaps it is because you worry about how someone may respond, that they may take on your worry, or you may feel judgment from them. Maybe where your worry is that they will point you in a direction you are not sure is for you.
Do you notice you feel overwhelmed ?
Would you like to be able to say no and not feel guilty ?
I work with individuals over 16 who maybe feeling anxious, overwhelmed, guilty, frustrated, sad, or stuck. I offer support by listening, offering my thoughts and observations from what I have heard. This can help to see things from a different view point and make things feel clearer.
If you are feeling like something needs to change in life, I can support you. I can't offer advice, but can offer the chance to explore choices, what it might be like and feel to choose them and explore if anything is stopping you from making them.
One of the areas that I have a special interest, and extensive experience in is supporting parents and carers. I understand that holding a caring role can feel overwhelming especially as you are likely to be trying to balance it alongside other aspects of your life, such as work, family or looking after your own needs. It may feel lonely and isolating. The situation you are in may leave you feeling low, anxious or stuck.
I also support people who are finding it a challenge to look after their own needs. This may be due to anxiety, grief, stress or finding a change in life difficult to adapt to. I work with people to help them introduce a better balance into their lives and recognise their importance.
As we are all individuals we will all see and experience things in a different way. I believe it is important to have the opportunity to be heard. Please do get in contact counsellingwithsarah0@gmail.com to see how we can work together.
Practice description
Where I work
I offer counselling online, on the telephone or through email.
How I work
I support you through listening, you can talk about what feels right for you and we can look at your experiences, thoughts and feelings together. I believe by working together we can work through what is important and reflect what is going on for you.
Sessions go at a pace that feels right for you, there is no obligation to say anything. There are no set amount of sessions that you need to have, we can work short-term or long-term.
How counselling can help
Counselling can help with feelings of overwhelm, loneliness and isolation. It can offer support through your experiences of anxiety, bereavement, feelings of being angry, guilty, scared, sad or low.
Counselling can help to support you through changes that happen or you want to happen in life by allowing an opportunity to notice feelings and thoughts that are coming up for you.
Qualifications and experience
I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor who undertook my training at the University of Brighton. I hold a certificate in online and telephone counselling. I have an Advanced Email counselling certificate.
Alongside my private practice I also work with Counselling Carers who are a CIC. I hold client sessions and also am one of their designated safeguarding deputies.
I have worked with a charity that supports carers. I offered counselling support to a range of caring roles, such as parents, someone with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Autism, someone with a mental health issue, drug and alcohol issue or learning difficulties.
I have held a school counsellor position at a local secondary school. I also have volunteered for Brighton and Hove Mind and a local low-cost counselling service.
I continue to update my practice through attending seminars, courses, workshops, networking with other professionals, reading books, papers and outcomes of research.
My first session
The first session is a chance to talk about what brings you to counselling. We can together go through what you are looking for and it gives a chance to answer any questions that you might have about working with me. It allows an opportunity to have a bit of background which you feel comfortable sharing.
It is a great opportunity to see how it would be to share and work with me. This is important as I believe the therapeutic relationship is key within the work that we will do together. It is the first step to take towards building some trust between us.
We can go through and complete the paperwork bit too, this is not too much and I assist anyone who needs it. The focus thereafter is what you choose to talk about and explore.
Please do get in touch so we can book in a time, counsellingwithsarah0@gmail.com

I have availability to start working with new supervisees online or over the telephone.
I hold sessions on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday daytime. I can offer 60 or 90 minute sessions. This can be either fortnightly or monthly. I am also happy to offer ad-hoc sessions.
I do have a flexible approach to sessions and therefore we can look to see what fits in the diary each month if that is best.
Please contact me on counselllingwithsarah0@gmail.com or complete the contact form to find out more.
About me and my therapy practice
Supervision with me will help you to navigate the right balance for your practice and develop your confidence with your case work including support with maintaining boundaries, managing ethical issues and develop the practice that you want.
I support people to develop their private practice and the demands of life alongside it.
Within supervision it offers the support to you to develop and maintain ethical practice and support your professional growth.
By working with me you will gain confidence and some clarity about the best way to work for you. For example, considering your working pattern, when to take time off, reviewing the client load, types of clients, etc.
I use the 7-eyed supervision model as a basis for the supervision work. The model focuses on seven distinct aspects of the therapist’s relationships.
I understand that everyone has their own unique needs and I aim to meet yours in the most supportive way possible. So, if you need to have some adaptations to the sessions, let me know and we can discuss this.
A typical supervision session would look like ....
A supervision session would start with a check in this is helpful to understand personal capacity and how the work-life balance maybe feeling.
I would ask if there were any risk issues that need to be covered and these would be given initial priority.
We can then move on to discuss your case work, support you in any difficulties you might be having and offer a chance to reflect on your practice and the interventions you are using.
There is the opportunity to consider personal development this might be through looking at any training or opportunities to gain experience.
As a session concludes it gives us a chance to identify the ways you want to move forward so that you can feel supported and confident within your work.
Before we leave the session confirmation of the next session will be given.
Practice description
I thought it might be helpful to see my training and experience background
Qualifications
My core qualifications include a Humanistic Psychotheraputic Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Brighton and an Advanced certificate in Clinical Supervision including online and telephone working.
I have also undertaken training with working with Children and Young People and done some CPD around supervising those who work with Young people.
Experience
I have nearly 7 years of experience in practice which has included working within a charity, within a secondary school, with a CIC, EAP work and private practice.
I currently work with a CIC providing counselling for carers and I am one of their deputy Safeguarding Leads. I understand the issues and concerns that might come up within safeguarding through not only training but my experience too as safeguarding concerns regularly come up with carers.
With a background in largely working through a person-centred lens I can support you and the process behind the case work.
I have lots of experience of working with EAPs too and the time-limited nature of the sessions. I understand that this can bring a different dynamic to the work and can sometimes limit your autonomy as a practitioner.
I appreciate that everyone has their own unique needs and I aim to meet yours in the most supportive way possible. So, if you need to have some adaptations to the sessions, let me know and we can discuss this.
I understand supervision needs to be a place where you can speak freely. As a member of the Â鶹Դ´, I follow their ethical framework, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for supervision.
I hold extensive experience in supporting carers and those who work caring for others. This I believe places me well to support you in ensuring you are caring towards yourself too.
My supervision practice helps to support you in developing the right balance for you.
My first session
I suggest that we have an initial chat either online or over the phone to meet each other and see what I can offer and what you are looking for.
It is a great chance to ask questions and get a sense of each other.
If you would like to book in an initial chat then please use the contact form or contact me on counsellingwithsarah0@gmail.com
