I am open to new clients.

About me and my therapy practice

Find direction. Make decisions. Move forward.

I am an EMCC Global qualified Senior Practitioner in Coaching in training, and I am offering special introductory pricing - more details below.

I bring nearly a decade of experience from therapy into our work as a dual-accredited coach. We will look at how you operate so you can identify ambitious but realistic options and put them into action.

Whatever your aim, I offer a free half-hour opening chat to discuss how we could work together. No pressure, just a chance to see if we could help you develop a plan you actually follow.

What will you get working with me?

Forget just working harder: coaching is about thinking clearly about what is going on so you can make intentional choices.

People often come to coaching because they are stuck but know therapy isn't the right answer. You might want to think through your current options, what they bring to the table, and what is getting in the way of taking action.

Some coachees focus on work: making decisions on changing jobs or sectors, or solidifying confidence while adjusting to a new level of seniority.

But coaching can also focus on personal areas where you are stuck and don't know what to do next. In practice, these often overlap: we’ll likely work across both your professional and personal life.

Practice description

My intention is that we use our sessions to help you think clearly and move forward, without jargon or pressure.

Many of the people I work with are already highly capable and resourceful. But that often brings its own complexity. I know what it means to meet people at real depth, getting to know their resources and weak points, the areas which flow and the ones they avoid.

Coaching isn’t just about navigating your complexity; it’s also about the complexity around you, and I’m well-versed in helping people navigate that with ambition and realism. There is little point in setting goals too mild or wild when it comes to setting a plan you will actually follow.

I’m currently in training to be a Senior Practitioner in Coaching, working with coaching leader Dr Trish Turner to develop my grounding in up-to-date tools and techniques, all of which I will bring to bear.

My professional life before counselling and coaching included journalism (with health, social care and the public sector the mainstays, alongside an unexpected detour to comedy), as well as time in PR and the charity sector. I know what it’s like to work in organisations from scrappy startups to storied institutions.

â¶Ä‹

What practical details do you need to know on working together?

While I build my hours, I am offering introductory pricing - £150 per 90-minute session. I also offer a free half-hour opening chat to see if we might be good fit.

I charge different rates for organisation-funded work, just let me know if you want more details.

An average run of sessions involves six to eight sessions of 90 minutes, but the number of sessions and length can vary depending on what you need.

We don’t fix a regular slot but agree the next session afresh every time, so you find the optimum rhythm to put some plans into action.

Sessions can take place in person in London (at your workplace or another suitable location), or we can work online from anywhere through Google Meet.

About me and my therapy practice

What would you like to talk about today? It’s a common enough starting point in counselling sessions, but it is rarely a question with an easy answer.

I’m a Â鶹ԭ´´-accredited counsellor, and I work with people to explore their feelings, thoughts and behaviours to see how they want to respond to challenges in life.

I work with a wide range of clients; the majority are men, and many are LGBT+.

So where shall we start?

People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. Some clients use sessions to make sense of events in their past, the impact on them now, and perhaps to look at where they want to go next.

Others may find they’re living their lives based on old ideas of themselves, perhaps editing themselves to a version that feels palatable to others, but are unsure how to change.

And for some, there might not even be clarity on what is going on for them - but they know something is amiss in their lives or relationships. Depressed feelings, stress and anxious thoughts are often part of the picture too.

Whatever is going on for you, I offer a free half-hour initial appointment to discuss how we could work together.

How I work

The first time I saw a therapist, I was given lots of space and silence to be with my feelings. And that might have been useful for someone else. But for me, I was just left feeling unsure what to say, and was left with a vague sense that I was doing therapy - and emotions - wrong.

When I changed to a new therapist, they gave me more structure and prompts to find my way into my feelings and to talk about what was going on. And, after a while, things started to move for me.

While every client is different, I know my experience is something others suspect they will find in the counselling room. I aim to create a safe environment where clients have enough structure to talk about what is going on for them.

Practice description

Where I work

London Bridge: Tuesday afternoons and evenings, and Thursday evenings.

Brixton: Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings.

Online: Google Meet sessions on Thursday daytimes.

Starting counselling

Starting counselling can be intimidating. It’s very common to think that other people’s problems are more important than yours. It’s something I’m used to working with, and we can take a look at together.

And while some clients are well-versed in working with their emotions, for many others - especially for people who are good at thinking their way through problems - it is unexplored territory.

My job is very often about working with people who aren’t sure where to start, and I’m here to offer a confidential, steady and supportive space to find a way into doing that.

If you are interested in exploring what it might be like to work with me, then email on hello@andrewmickel.co.uk, or WhatsApp or text me on 07428 338931. We can set up an initial appointment to see if the support I can offer would be right for you.

About me

I trained for three years at the well-respected Metanoia Institute, and have a diploma and BSc in humanistic counselling, and draw on Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis traditions in order to find the best way to work with you. I have also counselled at both MCPS in Ealing and ELOP in Walthamstow.

â¶Ä‹I am a Â鶹ԭ´´-accredited counsellor, meaning I have completed extra work beyond that required just to register with Â鶹ԭ´´. I am also fully insured and supervised in my work.

I also make sure to complete regular additional training, with recent CPD covering embodied practice, ADHD and male psychology. I have also taken a foundation training in working with couple/relationship issues, gaining a professional certificate in Couple/Relationship Therapy accredited by COSRT at Level 5, but please note I don't work with couples.

My first session

The most important factor in counselling is the relationship between the counsellor and the client, so an introductory session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We can talk about what issues have brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve.

Most in-person sessions are £70; I have some £65 slots in Brixton on Wednesday afternoons, and all online slots (Thursday mornings and lunchtimes) are £65 too. I also offer a free half-hour initial appointment

I work with clients from some private insurance companies, including Aviva, Bupa, Healix, WPA and more. Do ask if I work with your provider.

If we agree to work together, then we will set you a weekly 50-minute time slot for us to have safe, confidential sessions. I recommend clients start weekly, but there is the opportunity to move to fortnightly working after an initial few sessions.

What I can help with

AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cultural issues, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Men's issues, Neurodiversity, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues

Types of therapy

Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Relational, Transactional analysis

Clients I work with

Adults, Trainees
