About me and my therapy practice
"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection". (Siddhartha Gautama).
I offer Psychotherapy and clinical supervision and work with both individuals and couples.
(Please see my supervision listing for supervision needs)
I favour a tailored (Plauralistic) and very individual approach to sympathetically and effectively help with any issues that may be troubling you at this time in your life/lives.
My interest lies in helping people develop a sense inner strength and self evaluation that doesn't rely on changeable, outside influences and factors, but on a consistent ability to contact find peace and worth within. This often requires working on self awareness and self compassion that enables habitual, detrimental patterns to be recognised and altered. Many of these patterns and behaviours develop in early years as away of coping, but can become stuck, default settings - even when no longer needed or appropriate.
In my work with couples, I try to foster a positive atmosphere that recognises the many external and historical factors that can distort even the best of relationships. A third party can be very useful to create the firebreak often needed to be able see other alternatives and perspectives rather than be locked into adversarial cycles.
My role is always as a facilitator, and a strong emphasis is on collaboration. For positive changes to remain, they have to genuinely come from within, with belief.
Although I mainly work in person, online appointments can be arranged.
I have an advanced diploma in counselling and psychotherapy and my professional accredited status ensures high levels of knowledge and experience.
Fully insured and enhanced DBS certified. BUPA registered. Recognised psychotherapist for the main insurance providers.
Full disabled facilities and parking.

Practice description
It can feel like a daunting prospect to enter into counselling/therapy, but it's also a first, very positive step towards refusing to continue with the way things are. Rather than an indulgence, therapy can be a wise investment in your well-being; as an individual or a couple.
I use a variety of methods and techniques to help clients make sense of, move forward or take a new direction in their lives, and favour a flexible and tailored attitude and approach which deeply respects individuality. My aim is for clients to find their own truth, wisdom and strength and I find that combining latest methods and research with time-honoured practices is often a good way to achieve this
Person-Centered, relational values run throughout the work, and some of the methods and practical tools I use are:
Insight - Solution
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
MBCT (Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy)
Internal Family Systems
Mindfulness and Meditation
Wounded inner child work
Compassionate inquiry
Flash technique (part of the EMDR protocol)
Psychodynamic (subconscious) exploration and analysis
Creating change and acceptance
Insight & communication tools - couples
Body based / somatic tools
We could be dealing with past issues together; connecting with and giving a greater voice to the subconscious mind, or be working more in the here and now, and finding ways to break out of habitual ways of thinking or acting. Bringing about improved awareness to what are often automatic thoughts and actions can create options that may otherwise never be realised.
The goal is always a collaboration and partnership with the client/s. My role is that of facilitator.
Many couples find that they need help ‘finding’ each other again or are in a stuck pattern of relating; or perhaps need assistance in evaluating where they are now ‘at’ in their lives together. There are many factors that can distort and get in the way of authentic communication and a close bond, and a third party can help identify what these may be.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to get an understanding of what you would like from therapy. It's a chance to ask questions and generally get a feel for the process - as well as to unburden.
My wish is that you leave the initial session feeling at ease, hopeful and motivated.

About me and my therapy practice
I am able to provide online or in person clinical supervision for therapists/ mental health workers and follow the supervision structure of the British Psychological Society and am also certified by them.
As a supervisor, my aim is to help those in training or new to the profession to develop their skills and provide helpful guide rails, explore ideas and to assist with ethical dilemmas where possible.
More experienced practitioners who have already developed their own style may need more in the way of support or different perspectives rather than too much developmental structure. 'Two heads being better than one' .
My aim is to build a strong supervisor/supervisee relationship that allow trust and honesty to flourish. Honouring and holding an awareness of any potential power imbalance is important, but also to be open to alternative ways of looking at things and to see constructive feedback as an opportunity.
I endeavour to respect a therapists individual style and way of working as there are many routes to the same destination...
Practice description
I'm in private practice as an accredited Â鶹Դ´ member and a professional accredited member of the NCPS, so have good experience of what it is to be in private practice, but am equally happy to see supervisees in other areas of the field.
I help adult individual clients but I also work with couples/relationships and understand the unique challenges when working with couples that may have to be explored through supervision.
My working method is pluralistic, so I use many different models and a wide variety of issues. I find this enhances my ability to be an effective supervisor as a well rounded knowledge base and an ability to think laterally is required.
My first session
I charge the normal session fee for the first session, then perhaps reflect on how we both feel and whether the chemistry is right...
A supervisor becomes an important part of our working lives and my wish is that we have a prosperous and authentic relationship.
