About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integratively trained therapist and accredited member of the Â鶹ԭ´´ working with young children, adults, couples and families.

I am passionate about people being able to access support when they are struggling and always place clients needs and experience at the centre of my work.

I use psychoeducation at the core of my work introducing different theories or information in sessions where possible to help support you in your personal growth and to develop lifelong strategies  beyond the therapy.

I have an interest in early life experiences including early attachments and how they impact on later adulthood, believing that our early experiences form parallels with adolescence and adulthood. Many of the problems we face are linked to earlier experiences which form our life script. Exploring and understanding this life script in therapy can help to challenge negative parallels and move towards more positive outcomes for clients.

Examples of some of the modalities I work with are Transactional Analysis (TA), Imagery and Metaphor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused, Trauma Informed approach and Systemic Family Therapy .

Practice description

I work with children, young people, adults, couples and families. I hold an up to date enhanced DBS certification for working with children and young people.

Prior to counselling I had 23 years of working with children and young people in secondary and alternative provision school settings. Within this I worked in a role specifically created within North Tyneside around barriers in education including school avoidance. I currently work in schools as well as private practice.

I work relationally with an Integrative approach at the core of my work. Working Integratively means I draw upon different approaches depending on what your individual needs are, creating a bespoke approach tailored to your needs.

My work with younger children is through play and creative modes as this is the first language children access and learn and is the most natural way of supporting a child in expressing their inner world. Some of the methods I use in play therapy are sand tray, therapeutic stories as well as creative arts.

My work with families is systemic, with consideration of all family members, avoiding blame and helping to understand communication styles and relational needs amongst the family. This work involves relational work understanding less helpful patterns as well as using solution focused approaches to resolving barriers to thriving within the family environment.

Couples counselling addresses less helpful patterns in relationships and looks at the history of the relationship toward using solution focused methods to support stronger relationship foundations and a healthier relationship dynamic.

I am an accredited member of the Â鶹ԭ´´. I am also part of the Children, Young people and Families division of the Â鶹ԭ´´.

My first session

Prior to a first session I offer a free 15 minute telephone conversation to give you the opportunity to speak with me and ask any questions you may have, to see if I am the right therapist for you. There is no pressure during this call to book in a session with me and If you decide I am not the right therapist for you I can help you to find someone that is.

The first counselling session we will have will involve establishing your back story as well as identifying any goals you may wish to work on during your therapy.
