About me and my therapy practice

Do you experience flashbacks, nightmares, or find yourself avoiding certain places, people or thoughts? Do you feel like you are not good enough, or carry a sense of shame, guilt, or blame? Trauma can make the world feel unsafe — and healing can feel out of reach. But recovery is possible, and you don’t have to go through it alone.

I’m a Level 7, postgraduate-trained trauma-focused therapist and relational integrative counsellor. I specialise in working with individuals who have experienced trauma such as childhood abuse, relational trauma, domestic or sexual violence, medical trauma, accidents, and more.

Trauma therapy with me is grounded in evidence-based approaches and we begin our journey together by building safety and stability — then, when you're ready, we move into processing traumatic memories, reducing the emotional charge, and integrating your experiences in a way that helps you move forward. Therapy is never a one-size-fits-all —so our work together is structured round your needs, readiness and goals.

Trauma therapy includes assessment, understanding the neurobiological impact of trauma on our nervous system, regulating overwhelming emotions, learning different coping strategies and identifying and reducing the emotional load of triggers to decrease nightmares and flashbacks. Then if you feel ready it involves going deeper and working directly with the memories and beliefs that trauma left behind, so they no longer define or control you.

With both professional expertise and a lived experience of trauma, I bring empathy, structure, and relational safety to the process. Healing is not about forgetting — it’s about reclaiming your life, step by step.

If you are considering trauma therapy, then I welcome you to get in touch and we can talk about what that might look like for you.

Practice description

My approach to trauma therapy follows a well-established three-phase model designed to support clients with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of PTSD, Complex PTSD, or those with lived experience of complex trauma. Trauma therapy is generally more directive during Phases 1 and 2, while Phase 3 often feels more akin to counselling. Trauma therapy can be used as an adjunct to counselling with clients often working with me through phases 1 and 2 and then going back to their regular counsellor.

Phase 1 focuses on assessment, psychoeducation, symptom reduction by developing safety, stabilisation, through resilience and emotion regulation skills. Then once we agree it’s appropriate, we move into Phase 2, where we process traumatic memories using a range of evidence-based therapies, including EMDR. You can find more information about the individual therapies I am trained in on my website.

Phase 3 is integration, where I use my skills as an integrative therapist to support you with any remaining challenges, adaptive behaviours, or trauma-related beliefs. This phase supports you in reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may feel lost, unheard, or fragmented, guiding you towards reclaiming your sense of wholeness.

Trauma therapy requires a commitment to work inside and outside of the therapy sessions, I’m always happy to discuss this further or answer any questions you might have.

I work with adults, young people aged 11 to 18, and their families, offering both online sessions via Zoom and face-to-face appointments.

The most important part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. If after the first or any session you feel I’m not the right fit, that’s completely okay — it’s vital you choose someone you feel comfortable with.

It’s a privilege to support you on your healing journey. If you’re ready to take the first step towards change, I invite you to reach out. I believe in everyone’s capacity for growth, compassion, and recovery, and I look forward to welcoming you.

My first session

As a professional therapist, I have a duty of care to ensure that our work together is safe, ethical, and tailored to your needs. Whether we meet face-to-face or online, our journey begins with gathering some important background information through a thorough assessment.

Before your first session, I will send you some assessment forms to complete. These help me understand your current experience and identify any factors that may be impacting your wellbeing. If you have any difficulties completing these forms, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Assessment is an ongoing process throughout therapy — we’ll review your progress and goals regularly, whether that’s weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or every six weeks, depending on your needs and the therapy used.

Once we have completed this initial stage, we’ll review the therapist-client agreement together. When you’re comfortable with everything, you can book your first full session, which lasts one hour.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous before or during the first session. Opening up to someone new about personal experiences can be daunting. My aim is to gently put you at ease by creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where we can begin to explore your trauma together.
