About me and my therapy practice
Hi, thanks for visiting my page,
Are you finding it difficult to adjust to a change in your life and feel stuck? Or maybe, you feel lost, distressed or alone and feel you can't escape? Do you experience anxiety, low mood or depression stopping you making decisions? Would you like to improve your relationships? Or perhaps you feel hopeless, stressed, sad or uncertain and not know the reason why?
I know at times in our life whether we are an adult or young person life can feel tough and we find ourselves struggling making us feel overwhelmed or confused. You may have a good support network but might be finding it hard to talk through what you are experiencing. Very often, talking to someone who isn鈥檛 emotionally involved can help you to understand yourself without the fear of being judged. I understand the decision to begin counselling can feel like a big step and it may be difficult to ask for help.
I'm Em, a friendly, warm, down to earth Counsellor. I work within a Person-Centred approach which means I put emphasis on you being at the centre of the counselling process. When we meet I will provide you with a safe space by offering you respect without judgement as you speak freely to make sense of your world at this time. I will give you the time to explore your innermost self, work through the difficulties you are experiencing and support you to find the answers to enable you to move forward and take control of your life.
I work with both adults and young people from the age of 11 years onwards.
I find taking a creative approach to counselling alongside talking can be helpful, when appropriate. I tailor my approach to you but do understand you may not want to use this approach which is completely fine. Creative techniques can be really useful not only for young people but also adults. These techniques can help you to process emotions and experiences and see things in a different way that you may have never thought of before.
Practice description
I provide flexible and confidential individual counselling to young people and adults in the UK.
Sessions for individuals are for 1 hour, this allows time for you to get settled, 50 minutes of counselling and time to check out.
I am based in Bacup, East Lancashire for face to face sessions and have a home-based practice which is both quiet and private. I can offer online or telephone sessions if preferred.
I am a fully qualified counsellor where my counselling work is fully supervised with up to date indemnity insurance, a clear enhanced DBS certificate, GDPR Compliant and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (麻豆原创) where I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
My Background
My counselling experience includes working with Barnardos, Mind, Place2Be, Psychological Service for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism or ADHD and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) offering counselling to young people or adults.
I have experience working with neurodivergent clients and through having ADHD myself, I know what it is like to feel different and misunderstood.
In addition I have over 25 years鈥 experience of supporting children and young people in various settings, including primary and secondary schools, services for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), homeless shelter and residential and children鈥檚 home. I understand the difficulties and stress education staff and children are put under to achieve academic success as well as how difficult the teenage years can be and the issues that surrounding this.
My first session
Introductory Call
Whether you are seeking counselling for yourself or your child for the first time or have tried it before, I completely understand it can feel very challenging to think about getting in touch and most importantly find the right person for you or your child. I never underestimate the courage it takes to make the first step to reach out for support as I have been there too. I recognise it is very important you connect with your counsellor and I invite you to get in contact for a brief initial call to see how we might work together or have a look at my website for further information. I respond to every enquiry; please ensure you check your voicemail or spam/junk email folders.
My First Session
During our first session together we will start to get to know each other. We will complete an assessment form where you can share at your own pace what has been happening in your life whilst understanding what your hopes are for counselling.
Everyone鈥檚 journey in counselling is different and I offer both short and long term counselling. We will have regular reviews to check in on the changes in your life and whether more sessions would be of value to you. You will have full control on whether you would like to continue or not.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I鈥檓 Em - a qualified supervisor trained in the Person Centred approach. I enjoy working creatively and flexibly, adapting to the individual needs of each client.
I have experience supporting both adults and young people across a variety of settings, including private practice, adult mental health service, schools, colleges and children centres who have experienced a wide range of challenges including depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm, suicidal ideation, emotional regulation, loneliness, life transitions and friendships.
I also have experience working with neurodivergent clients and understand many of the daily challenges they face 鈥 I have ADHD myself, which informs my practice and understanding.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked in the education system supporting children and young people with special educational needs and difficulties (SEND).
Practice description
I offer clinical supervision to both qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs recognising that each stage of your counselling journey requires different forms of support. With my lived experience of ADHD I understand we all have different ways of working and processing things. I create a supervision space that is inclusive, relaxing and flexible for you to be yourself.
Whether you're looking to explore your client work, reflect on how you practice, navigate ethical dilemmas, managing workload, or focus on your own personal and professional development 鈥 I鈥檓 here to support you.
Something I personally value in supervision is being asked how I am doing, and whether anything personal may be affecting my practice. I bring the same care to my work with supervisees 鈥 I鈥檓 passionate about hearing how you are doing, too.
I work collaboratively with you, drawing on Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet 鈥淪even Eyed Model of Supervision鈥 focusing on the seven aspects of the therapeutic process.
