About me and my therapy practice

At Glenn Cooper Counselling, I provide a warm, compassionate, and professional space where adults, children, and families can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment.

My practice is rooted in the person-centred approach, which means that you set the pace and direction of our work together. I listen with empathy and openness, helping you make sense of what’s going on in your life and supporting you to find your own way forward.

I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, low self-esteem, relationship issues, and life transitions.

You don’t need to have a clear diagnosis or specific issue—many people come to counselling simply because they feel stuck or overwhelmed. I hold a BSc Honours degree in Psychology and a Level 4 Diploma in Person-Centred Therapeutic Counselling.

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Â鶹ԭ´´) and follow their ethical framework to ensure safe and professional practice.

I’ve also previously worked as a counsellor within the Bedford College Group, supported students across Special Educational Needs Schools, primary, secondary, and further education settings.

I hold full enhanced DBS clearance, enabling me to work safely with children and vulnerable individuals.

Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, or your family, I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy, experience, and care.

Practice description

Counselling offers you a safe, confidential space to explore what’s going on in your life and how you’re feeling. You might be struggling with anxiety, low mood, or grief, or you may just feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start.

As a person-centred counsellor, I will work with you at your own pace, helping you explore your experiences, identify patterns, and find ways to move forward.

For adults, counselling can be a space to untangle thoughts and emotions, develop resilience, and regain a sense of balance. I support clients with a range of issues, including depression, trauma, burnout, low self-worth, relationship stress, and major life changes.

You don’t need to have everything figured out, this is your space to begin wherever you are.

For children and teenagers, I offer a calm, supportive environment where they can talk openly or explore their feelings through age-appropriate methods. I work with challenges such as anxiety, friendship struggles, family breakdown, bullying, academic pressure, and more.

My experience across Primary, Secondary, and Further Education, as well as in SEN settings, enables me to connect with young people with sensitivity and care.

For families or parents, I provide counselling that supports clearer communication, stronger relationships, and a more supportive home life.

Whether you’re seeking short-term support or long-term therapy, I’ll work with you to create a space that’s safe, respectful, and focused on your individual needs.

My first session

The first counselling session is a gentle, welcoming space where we’ll explore what brings you to therapy and what you’re hoping to get from it.

You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly what to say, we’ll go at your pace. This session is an opportunity for you to begin telling your story in a space that feels safe, accepting, and respectful.

I’ll invite you to share any current challenges, concerns, or goals, and we’ll discuss how I work and whether you feel I’m the right fit for you. You can ask questions, raise any worries you have about starting therapy, and let me know what kind of support you’re looking for.

If the counselling is for a child or young person, I’ll often begin with a short conversation with the parent or guardian to gather initial information and outline how I work. From there, I aim to build trust gradually with the child or teen, creating a space where they feel comfortable enough to express themselves freely.

Whether you're new to counselling or returning after time away, the first session is about helping you feel heard, respected, and at ease. I don’t ask for long forms or assessments unless they feel useful—we’ll begin by simply talking.

If you’re interested in exploring how therapy could help you or someone in your care, please feel free to get in touch to arrange an initial session or have an informal chat.

Practice description

Individual Adult Therapy

Individual counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental environment for you to explore the feelings and experiences that may be negatively impacting your well-being.

Carrying the weight of daily life can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress, often resulting in anger toward yourself or those close to you, a fear of being genuine, or low self-esteem.

In our work together, the aim is to empower you to unlock your inner resources for resolving personal challenges. You can expect to develop a greater capacity to handle life’s difficulties positively, improve your emotional well-being, build resilience, and create a more fulfilling life.

As a person-centred counsellor, I will walk alongside you, allowing you to set the pace that feels comfortable. I accept your experiences without judgment and commit to being an active listener. Through reflective communication, we can accurately explore your thoughts and feelings together, paving the way for positive outcomes.

Child and Adolescent Therapy

Many young people struggle with their emotions, facing pressures from school, family life, friendships, and social media. These challenges can lead to feelings of vulnerability, anxiety, depression, anger, and fear, all of which can negatively impact their mental well-being. Often, they may feel scared or uncomfortable discussing their feelings with family members, friends, or teachers, fearing judgment. I provide a safe, confidential, and supportive environment where they can openly express themselves.

My goal is to help them explore these challenges and develop effective coping strategies and skills to thrive.

With experience working in Further Education, Secondary, and Primary Schools, as well as in Special Educational settings for students facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, I am well-equipped to support young people in their journey. I also hold Full Enhanced DBS clearance, ensuring a safe environment for your child.

My first session

I provide a complimentary 30-minute initial consultation to discuss your goals for counselling and to explore how we might work together to achieve them. This consultation can be conducted in person, over the phone, or via Zoom, depending on your preference.

To get in touch, please use the 'send message' button on this directory listing or visit my website at glenncoopercounselling.co.uk.

As I manage my practice independently, email is the preferred method of initial contact, as I may be unable to answer calls while working with clients. I will make every effort to respond to your inquiry within 24 hours.
