About me and my therapy practice
Welcome,
Welcome, I’m Samia. I love what I do. Whether it's exploring emotional histories, working on yourself, navigating a life crisis or understanding your relationship with others, these may be some of the reasons you’re here. I've been working therapeutically since 2017 and as a fully qualified integrative therapist since 2019, offering counselling and psychotherapy to people of various ages and from a wide range of backgrounds. Supporting people build self-trust and grow a deeper understanding of themselves are privileges I deeply value and I do this by creating a safe and trusting space. I see myself as a therapist of colour and therefore ensure all my work employs cultural sensitivity, so that you are seen and heard with respect and care.
Who Can I Help?
In therapy, I help adolescents and adults navigating a wide range of challenges including neurodiversity, self-esteem, family break-ups, grief, life transitions, depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal thoughts and perfectionism shaped by parental, cultural or societal pressures. I also work with issues around academic stress, generational trauma, emotional abuse and parent-child relationships, including those involving adult children. This includes situations where parents are loving but have faced relational challenges such as neglect or depression.
How I Work
Counselling and psychotherapy are not one-size-fits-all approaches. I offer a flexible therapy service by combining various "modalities" or types of care to tailor counselling to your needs. I use psychodynamic and attachment theories to explore the unconscious and understand how past experiences influence the present. In my therapy room, what people who've worked with me have benefited from is truth offered with compassion, warmth, and non-judgement. This often involves gently challenging reflections that support you in facing difficulties with greater confidence and self-awareness. I don’t sugarcoat things, but I do ensure you feel safe and understood.
Practice description
Before psychotherapy re-training, I spent 15 years working in primary education, both in the UK and 5 years in the Middle East, supporting children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs (SEBD) as an SEN specialist.
I lecture and teach counselling psychology and psychotherapy as Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Tutor for Place2Be alongside my role as School Clinician within state secondary education. As an MÂ鶹Դ´ Registered Member, I adhere to their ethical framework. I am fully insured and hold an Enhanced DBS check.
Private Practice: I provide tailored high-quality confidential counselling to children, adolescents, sixth form students and adults, experiencing a wide range of emotional problems. I also provide support and advice to parents.
School Clinician: I lead, manage and oversee clinical counselling provision at a state secondary school in Waltham Forest, London, supporting pupils with emotional challenges, and on occasions in partnership with NHS professionals, Social Services and CAMHS. In primary school, I work with children across Key Stage 1 and 2 employing creative and play therapeutic practices.
Sixth Form: I work with young people transitioning from secondary school to sixth form, and with sixth form students transitioning to University. We work on various issues ranging from anxiety, stress and peer relationships.
Trainee Counsellors: I work with counsellors-in-training, focusing on self-awareness as a foundational skill for effective practice. We explore thoughts, emotions, and biases, to develop a deeper understanding, which in turn enhances client connectivity. I tailor my approach by integrating techniques that align with their training to enhance both their personal therapy and learning experience.
Non-Profit Women's Support Service, Nour Domestic Violence: I have substantial trauma-informed counselling experience having worked with South Asian women aged 20 and above supporting them with trauma, abuse and domestic violence-related issues.
My first session
Free Consultation
I offer a free initial 15-20 minute phone consultation to briefly explore your reasons for counselling, for you to ask any questions and arrange an assessment.
Initial Consultation and Assessment
An assessment consultation is made prior to any counselling work - this is an opportunity to gain a background history and form an understanding of presenting difficulties. In the assessment we explore your reasons for seeking therapy, any questions you may have as well as to ensure that if you decide to go ahead with therapy, you or your family member feel comfortable to work with me. If I am not the best fit for you, I will recommend someone else.
This meeting up to 50 minutes either in-person or online via zoom, and is not a therapeutic session. I charge a standard fee of £70.
