Availability
I work online and in person and have availability on Monday daytime, Tuesday daytime, Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. I have the capacity to be more flexible online if needed.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults and adolescents who are, for a variety of reasons, dealing with discomfort throughout their daily lives. This can be internal (who am I? Am I enough? What am I here for?), external or, more often, a messy combination of the above. I work with people like you who are looking for a space to look at what works and doesn't in their lives, finding patterns and using insight to guide real, meaningful change. You might be coming to therapy to cope better, to examine your past experiences or to simply gain insight into yourself. It is what we make it.
Sessions with me involve a lot of exploration of who you are and what is important to you. Our relationship will be a key part of this. Therapy with me may differ from other experiences of therapy you have had; I don’t work in a short term way that you may have had through work or the NHS. We work together to get to your core and understand what’s really going on before trying to implement a fix- this takes time but it is my belief that this is the meaningful work that sticks. Therapy is about meaningful change and that takes depth and time; a good analogy is exercise.
I work in a sex positive, kink positive and sex worker positive manner.
My theoretical approach is a mixture of Existential and Relational approaches to therapy, although solution-focused elements can be brought in if it seems appropriate.
It can be hard to know where to turn when we're struggling. I offer an inviting space that is warm yet challenging to help you to examine what's important and make decisions about what the future should be. The world we live in can throw up a lot of questions about identity, purpose and meaning. Together we can work out what you need, and help you get it.
Practice description
I provide a welcoming space for creative exploration of who you are, what is going on for you and what changes we want to make.
You decide the content that you bring and what we work with. They're your sessions. I will bring in suggestions at times or suggest alternative ways of working, but the first job is for them to fit with you.
Whilst a lot of what we do may look like traditional "talking therapy" there is space for art, drama, play and other ways of getting to what matters to you and who you are.
Whilst my work is non-pathologising, many labels and diagnoses are important to individuals and can impact that way that you interact with the world (for example personality disorders, neurodiversity) and if they are important to you then we will work with them. My approach gets tailored to individual needs- the space needs to work for you and be safe for you.
It's important to me that therapy fits the person. You may think therapy isn't a space for you, that your background or how you live might mean your therapist couldn't possibly understand you. I value a collaborative approach where we talk regularly about what's going on in the room, about us and our differences, and about whether we're going where you want us to go. It's a collaboration.
Please get in touch with any questions you may have.
My first session
A first session with me is where we both decide whether we are a good fit for working together. We’ll talk about your goals, what you want from therapy and I’ll tell you about how I operate. We’ll have some time to get into what matters to you here-and-now which should help you see if I’m someone you can work with.
This can involve a discussion of your history, including any history of therapy, but it does not need to. I am led by what you want to bring and we go from there.
This first session will also be influenced by how long you want to work together: short term work (minimum 12 sessions) needs to be planned for differently to longer term or open-ended work. We can discuss this beforehand over the phone or through emails.
Broadly, though, it is about us both working out where you are now, what you need and whether this is a space you can get that.
What I can help with
Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Adoption, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, Personal development, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues

About me and my therapy practice
I have experience delivering training to trainee therapists, particularly with a focus on the experiential, and have done this independently and allied to various counsellor training courses.
Beyond this, I deliver training in working with individuals from Traveller & Gypsy backgrounds. This training involves exploring the historical context of these groups in the UK, looking at what some of the modern manifestations of these and other issues can be, what this can be like for the individual as well as giving some useful direct tips. I talk about outside agencies who can help and bring in intersectional thinking, particularly around being LGBT+ or disabled.
The training can be delivered in person or online. To individuals or organisations.
Practice description
There is a lot of flexibility in training; it all needs to be tailored, if not bespoke. The group I'm working with, the context I'm in, make a big difference to how the training works. As such, it is all up for discussion.
