About me and my therapy practice

Hello. My name is April and I am a professionally qualified and registered counsellor for adults and couples.

I am down to earth, friendly and supportive in my approach. My style is professional, empathic, pro-active and supportive. I do not just sit and listen. I see therapy as a collaborative effort. A space to be yourself. Everyone is unique and my aim is to work with your style and what you're comfortable with.

I specialise in neurodiversity; Autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, burnout, masking, rejection sensitivity, dyslexia and dyspraxia. If you feel you identify as neurodivergent and would like some support in this process, please do get in touch.

Practice description

I work using a humanistic approach to counselling. My main therapeutic approach is Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a humanistic therapy and a form of social psychology that focusses on relationships, communication and healing.

I work with people (adults and young people, 16 years plus) looking for support with all kinds of challenges. I offer a safe, empathic and confidential space to talk, to deal with difficulties, change behaviours and allow you to understand yourself and your worries better.

My style is professional, empathic, pro-active and supportive. I do not just sit and listen. I see therapy as a collaborative effort. A space to be yourself. Everyone is unique and my aim is to work with your style and what you're comfortable with.

I have been working in the helping profession since 2011, specialising in working with people who have experienced trauma and wider mental health difficulties.

My first session

At our first session, we can discuss the issues that are of concern to you and your hopes and expectations for our work. This first meeting might help you get a sense of who I am as a person and how I can support you. I believe it is important you find a therapist that you feel at ease with, who you get the sense of being able to trust and build a rapport with over time.

There is no obligation to continue after this first meeting.

Once we have agreed to move forward and work together, the therapy process will go through different phases based on your needs and goals. This can be either short-term or open ended. You are free to end therapy whenever you chose. If you are unsure of whether counselling is for you, do feel free to try it for a few sessions so you can decide.

Counselling sessions lasts for 50 minutes and takes place weekly.
