About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Jo. If you’ve found your way here, you’re ready for change. Something is getting in the way of you living the life you want. It might be difficulties in relationships, difficult experiences holding you back, feeling triggered by specific situations, or a phobia. You’ve done a lot to try and figure it out yourself; now is the right time to reach out for some support.
I help people overcome hurdles which are holding them back. I love seeing my clients feeling more resolved, experiencing more rewarding relationships, feeling free to make the changes and choices they need to, and more able to be present.
Why you might be here
You’re likely someone who has always been pretty self-sufficient, competent, able to manage things, perhaps even a bit of a ‘coper’. Lately, though, you’ve been struggling.
Perhaps you’re having strong reactions to interactions with people, and you know they’re disproprtionate. Maybe you’re repeating the same relationship patterns over and over: struggling to set boundaries in important relationships, to manage conflict, experiencing relationship ‘flare-ups’. Certain things might unexpectedly trigger strong emotions: something on the TV; a throwaway comment; or a song on the radio.
Perhaps you dread specific situations like an upcoming journey, an adult child leaving home, a meeting at work, or even just getting everyone out of the house in the morning. You don’t know why, but these situations feel like they take over. You’re motivated to change things, but a little stuck on how to move forward.
Maybe ‘stuff’ from the past feels like is cropping up and impacting you think, feel and behave: you need to clear it out in order to move forward.
Whatever challenge you are facing, you’re ready to overcome it.
Practice description
I bring together a unique combination of therapy approaches which allows me to adapt to my clients’ needs as therapy progresses. I offer 1:1 integrative therapy, EMDR therapy, and intensive EMDR and integrative therapy sessions.
Integrative therapy. I blend different approaches to adjust to my clients' needs: person centred, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural therapy. I am non-judgemental and supportive, and we are curious together to understand what is going on for you, and to find a way forward.
EMDR Therapy was originally developed to work on PTSD and trauma, but has since been shown to be effective for a number of issues, including relationship issues, feeling triggered, phobias, and self-esteem. EMDR is scientifically proven and endorsed by the World Health Organisation, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, and the NHS.
EMDR intensives are longer sessions of EMDR, usually a few hours each over a few days in the same week. In many cases, a single day of intensive EMDR can achieve the same progress as months of weekly sessions.
Intensive integrative sessions to focus on a specific issue and last 90 minutes. This may be helpful for clients who want to spend more time on a specific topic, or those who want a one-off session to work through something specific.
My first session
There are two main factors that predict success: you, and your relationship with your therapist. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call so that we can explore whether we would be a good fit.
If we decide to work together, we would usually have some sessions understanding the lay of the land: what is going on for you, and what you would like to change. After 2-3 sessions, I will suggest the approach which I think will be most helpful, and check that you are happy with that.

Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Cultural issues, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues
