Availability
I am available week days between 9am and 3pm
I do not work in the evening or at weekends at the moment and I do take holidays but I do my very best to meet my clients needs and often clients need to reschedule appointments due to child or work commitments. As a team, we can figure it out.
About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I have been a counsellor for nearly 10 years now. I live in Hove and work with my clients mostly on Zoom.
My particular areas of expertise are around trauma through emotional needs not being met as a child, grief, loss, difficult relationships with family and working with adults who want to explore if they are neurodiverse.
More detail
Childhood Emotional Neglect is where you may have come from what outwardly seems like a good upbringing but communication issues in the family may have left you feeling unseen, unheard and disconnected. Your emotional needs as a child were not sufficiently met and this will be playing out negatively in your life. Together we can make sense of it all and help you become a more resilient and happier version of yourself.
Grief and Loss is an area I have worked in a lot and of course being human, it's impossible to avoid. Whether it is a direct loss from the death of a baby or child, a loved one, a beloved pet or the hope of something in your life that couldn't be fulfilled we can find a way through it. Grief is often not spoken about even though it is incredibly painful or, perhaps emotions are coming up that you weren't expecting and you're wondering if there's something wrong with that. Let's explore it.
Neurodivergence is something a lot of adults are now are starting to wonder about. This is sometimes arising from having a child that has been diagnosed. Do I have ADHD/Autism/both? Is it something else? As a therapist, I am not qualified to diagnose any type of neurodivergence but I am very aware of symptoms and also how childhood trauma can often present itself in a similar way. We can look at your behaviours, experiences and struggles together to try and untangle some of the overlaps.
Whatever your issue I will work with you to gently explore your individual experience and bring to light what has happened. Together we'll pay attention to the feelings arise with kindness and curiosity in order to heal and move forward.
Practice description
I work predominantly on Zoom, on occasion, (rarely) I might go to someone's house under special circumstances. Working on Zoom cuts costs for the client and travel time. It means you can be anywhere that has wifi so that gives you a broad spectrum of options that suit your situation and location. It also means we can continue our work if you're away from home or even a bit under the weather.
The minimum requirement for online sessions is that you have good wi-fi and can not be heard or disturbed during our sessions. Confidentiality is absolutely key so that you feel safe to fully explore your feelings.
I will be offering group work in the future using art as a way of expressing, processing and accepting feelings so look out for that if you are interested on my Facebook Page "White Cloud Counselling".
My first session
After you make initial contact we'll arrange a time and date to have a chat over the phone about what the key issues are. This is a free service and can last up to 30 minutes. Our chat will also help me to make sure that you have an issue that I know I can help with. If I think I can't, I'll be upfront about that. I'll invite you to go away and think about if you would like us to work together. After this, if you would like to start therapy with me, then just let me know and we can start planning our weekly sessions.
In your first session we'll talk about how it all works and you'll be invited to share any concerns and ask questions. If you've had counselling before we can talk to understand what may or may not have been helpful and I'll be able to clarify what you may come to expect and discuss your hopes, fears and expectations. Counselling can still be a taboo subject sadly and there are myths around what counselling is. There will be time in this, and other sessions for us to explore these things so you can enter the relationship with a full understanding of what to expect. I am always transparent and direct.
In my work I integrate different theories that I have trained in. I also continue to develop my skills and attend ongoing training which is a requirement of a registered practitioner. Primarily my work is client led and from there I may integrate other ways of working that will support you in your journey. I find that integrating other techniques as required can really help clients to identify issues and feelings that may have lay hidden in the unconscious.
Talking in a safe space can help you to look at painful experiences that suppression only compacts. Talking brings insight, self- awareness and acceptance of the past, new beginnings evolve and new perspective help us to fulfil our true potential.
It is a privilege for me to work with anyone who takes the courageous step of reaching out.
