About me and my therapy practice

www.bsandhya.co.uk

I am a Relate trained adult, couple and family therapist. I support individuals, couples and families experiencing difficulties around communication and conflict.

I have over 10 years of experience as a clinician, supervisor and lecturer with Relate and Tavistock Relationships. Additionally, I have an in-person private practice in Harrow and offer sessions online.

Sometimes, avoidance around difficult conversations stems from anxiety. Conversely, another pattern of stuckness is an experience of being misunderstood or not heard.

Relationship therapy helps individuals listen, in order to understand another perspective. It provies a space to strengthen communication, empathy and respect, while being able to hold multiple perspectives around a relationship.

Therapy helps understand how your early experiences shape your thoughts and behaviours in current significant relationships. You may gain insight nto why you might be repeating old behaviours. Through our work, we build on the ability to listen deeply, to with position that might be different from your own.

My primary clinical approach is psychodynamic, uncovering what lies beneath awareness of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I am also CBT and systemically trained. My therapeutic approach is tailored to your needs; it may be time limited or long term.

I am particularly passionate about working with difference and diversity in relationships. Specifically, I am interested in cross-cultural relationships, being culturally congruent practice. I support people from a range of ethnicities, sexualities and faiths. I warmly welcome LGBTQIA individuals; this is a space where your experience is respected and affirmed. I have also supported individuals and relationships where neurodivergence is present. Another area of interest is the relational impact of depression and anxiety.

I offer supervision for therapists working with individuals, relationships and families. I also work with therapists in training.

Practice description

My primary approach is psychodynamic, where we uncover what lies beyond your awareness. However, I am able to integrate approaches, (systemic and CBT), thereby tailoring my approach to your specific needs. Our work may be time limited or long term, based on what you find helpful.

I have worked as a clinical supervisor for over six years, at the NHS, charities and private practice. I supervise individuals and groups. My supervision covers contracted, short-term and long-term, open ended therapy.

I see supervision as a collaborative exercise where the supervisor holds the therapist's experience, where the therapist is able to engage safely and freely with clinical material. Ultimately, my hope is to support the therapist in holding an ethical, reflexive and compassionately engaged therapeutic practice, that is consistently learning, growing and developing.

My approach draws from Hawkins and Sohet's seven eyed model of relational matrices, where we collaboratively consider the various relationships playing out in the client-therapist-supervisory modes. My hope is to create a space that is reflective, trusting and restorative, while simultaneously remaining responsible to clinical and therapeutic needs.

About me and my therapy practice

My practice largely draws from the psychodynamic modality. I was also trained as a systemic practitioner, therefore my practice draws from both frameworks.

My practice also draws from cognitive behavioural approaches and mentalising frameworks. These modalities form the basis of my clinical and supervisory approaches.
