Practice description
At Cambridge & Ely Psychotherapy Service 鈥 Peterborough, we understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. My practice offers a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can talk openly about what you鈥檙e going through, without fear of judgement.
I work with adults facing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, low self-esteem, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Every person鈥檚 story is unique, and my role is to listen carefully, help you make sense of your experiences, and support you in moving towards meaningful change.
My approach is grounded in empathy and collaboration. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a partnership, so sessions are tailored to your individual needs and goals. Together, we can explore patterns of thought and behaviour, understand how past experiences may be shaping your present, and develop healthier ways of coping.
Clients often describe the experience as a chance to pause, reflect, and gain clarity. Over time, therapy can help you reduce feelings of overwhelm, improve relationships, rebuild confidence, and create a stronger sense of balance in everyday life.
Whether you are struggling with a specific issue or simply feel 鈥渟tuck鈥 and unsure why, you don鈥檛 have to go through it alone. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and support is available here in Peterborough. I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on what feels right for you.
My aim is to create an atmosphere of trust where you feel heard and valued. If you are ready to take that first step, I invite you to reach out鈥擨 will do my best to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
My first session
Your first session is an important step, and I aim to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible. Many people feel nervous about beginning counselling, so the first meeting is designed to give you time and space to share at your own pace.
During this session, we will talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. I may ask some gentle questions to help us build a fuller picture of your situation, but there is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to. Together, we will begin to explore your goals and consider how therapy can best support you.
This session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work, ask questions, and decide whether you feel comfortable moving forward. Counselling is a very personal process, and it鈥檚 important that you feel at ease with your therapist.
I do not offer a different rate for first sessions鈥攖he fee is the same as ongoing appointments. However, the first session has a slightly different focus: rather than diving straight into problem-solving, the emphasis is on understanding, building trust, and clarifying what you would like from therapy.
By the end of this initial meeting, you should have a clearer idea of how counselling may help you, and we can discuss whether short-term or longer-term support feels right.
