About me and my therapy practice

Is life an uphill battle? Are you taking one step forward, two steps back?  In the aftermath of trauma, daily life can be a constant negotiation of fear, exhaustion and self-doubt.

My name is Janine and I support people to heal and move forward after traumatic or deeply stressful life events. Whether you have experienced a single-incident trauma, a series of difficult life experiences or long-term complex trauma, I can help you to process what happened and reclaim your life.

Trauma can leave you feeling chronically unsafe, overwhelmed, and disconnected from yourself and others. The past is kept alive through nightmares and flashbacks. Everyday life is full of triggers and these can become so frequent and unbearable that a life of avoidance starts to feel inevitable. Depression takes hold and simple tasks feel heavier than they should. Thoughts and emotions become chaotic and unpredictable, relationships start to suffer, and you may feel like you're losing control.

It might feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But there is light, and I can help you find it.

I offer EMDR therapy and trauma-focused counselling with a specialist interest in helping people who live with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression. In our early sessions you will learn practical emotional regulation and grounding skills for managing unhelpful thought patterns and unwanted reactions. I will guide you in developing gentle, effective ways of responding to triggers that lessen their future power, helping you rebuild confidence in your ability to cope.

After just a few sessions of trauma-focused therapy, clients often notice early improvements such as no longer feeling constantly on edge, improved sleep and reconnecting more positively in their relationships

Life can be lonely and isolating when you are alone with your experience of trauma. But you will not be alone in your journey of trauma recovery. You will be supported by a caring, knowledgeable and non-judgemental ally.

Practice description

EMDR therapy and counselling for trauma can help you to recover from negative, stressful or traumatic life events. I offer a therapy space that is Neurodivergent-informed and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Trauma-focused counselling with me is a collaborative process. I will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan around your individual needs, one that's built to help you reach the goals you have for therapy. Sessions are designed around you and what you need to feel supported.

EMDR can be delivered either through regular weekly sessions or in an intensive format for those seeking more focused, accelerated support. Whether you're looking to work steadily through past experiences over time or want a condensed format to make quicker progress, I can you find the help the path that feels right for you.

In line with Â鶹ԭ´´ guidelines, I have regular clinical supervision and complete annual CPD relevant to my areas of practice. My commitment is to ethical, evidence-based therapy. My first session

We will begin with a 60-minute online consultation. During this session we'll talk through your symptoms or concerns and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about EMDR, trauma-focused therapy, or how I work as a counsellor. If it feels like a good fit and you'd like to continue with regular sessions, we can find a day and time that works well for you going forward. The cost of this appointment is £80 payable at the time of booking, there is no obligation to book further sessions.

Ahead of our initial consultation I will ask you to complete and return two short tick-box questionnaires. These help me get a fuller picture of your background and how you've been feeling recently, so we can make the most of our time together right from the start.

The first is the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) survey. This asks about certain types of difficult experiences that may have occurred during childhood — things like stress in the home, loss, or experiences of harm. Research has shown that these early experiences can shape how we feel, think, and cope as adults, often in ways we're not fully aware of.

The second is the GAD-7 and PHQ-9, a brief questionnaire about symptoms of anxiety and depression. These give me a useful snapshot of your current emotional wellbeing and help me get a clear picture of how symptoms may be affecting your day-to-day life right now.

I also request that you complete and return a Personal Information Record form before your first session. This information is required for insurance purposes and is kept strictly confidential.

It's natural to feel apprehensive about making a commitment to therapy and I understand you may have a few questions you'd like answering before booking in for an initial consultation. If so, please drop me an email with further details and I'll get back to you within 24 hours. You can also find lots of information about the services I offer on my website.
