About me and my therapy practice
I am trained in person-centred counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and I work with both counselling styles to support my clients. I have been in practice for 9 years.
Choosing a counsellor you feel you can connect with, feel safe with and open up to is one of the most important parts of the process. It helps to foster a trusting relationship that supports a person to gain insights and understanding and helps them make informed decisions.
I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can share your thoughts and feelings safely. This can help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, your feelings, your experiences or your situation. This can then enable you to identify changes or make decisions that might potentially help you to move forward in life, in a way that you would prefer to be living and experiencing it.
In terms of how I work - person-centred counselling focuses on active listening and empowering clients to deepen their understanding of themselves, and find the solutions that best suit them. It puts the client at the heart of the process. CBT includes techniques and tools to further help explore and understand thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, or to regulate emotions such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.
My approach is also trauma-informed, which allows me to effectively support clients in addressing various complex or difficult challenges that are a result of traumatic experiences.
Practice description
We are all unique, and we all respond differently to the challenges or the circumstances life presents to us. It's not uncommon for people to struggle to deal with things at some point in life. Even if we are used to sailing through difficult stuff - it doesn't mean we always will - and that's not uncommon either.
Whatever your situation, I make it a priority to tailor my approach to the needs of each client, ensuring you are supported in a way that best suits you. This helps to develop the trusting and safe relationship, which is so important to helping someone in their understanding of themselves or their situation, and helping them identify a way to move forward.
Alongside my private practice I also have experience of working with organisations delivering counselling within the community. This includes supporting survivors of domestic abuse or sexual abuse, as well as supporting general mental health problems, and people with carer responsibilities. I also have a solid understanding of mental health issues within the workplace.
If you are reading this and are struggling with your thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours, or would like to explore specific experiences in your life, speaking with a professional counsellor may help. Taking that first step can lead to meaningful changes in your life, and you are welcome to contact me, without obligation, to see whether you feel I might be able to help you.
My first session
In counselling sessions, you decide what you want to focus on. I actively listen and help you explore issues - without giving specific advice or telling you what to do. Sometimes, I might gently challenge to help you understand yourself better, but you move at your own pace and in a way that best suits you.
The first session includes reviewing the counselling agreement and completing an assessment to understand why you are seeking counselling. This is all done in a relaxed manner and at your own pace.
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
If you would like to contact me, I'm available for a free, no-obligation initial telephone consultation to help you decide if I can assist you.
