About me and my therapy practice

My down-to-earth approach enables me to build trusting relationships with my clients.  I hope that in turn this enables you to feel safe to share whatever the issues are that have brought you to counselling.  We'll work together at your speed and with the issues you bring. It's your time and space to explore whatever is important to you.

I am trained as a person-centred counsellor, which means that I can work with most things that might bring you to counselling - if it matters to you then it's a valid reason to come to counselling, and it matters to me.

I am also trained as a Rewind Therapist and can work with people suffering from PTSD and trauma, to help to alleviate symptoms.

I have a varied professional background working with a wide range of issues including bereavement (of both adults and children, sudden and expected), children's palliative care, addiction and substance use, mental illness, anxiety, criminal justice, sexual abuse, domestic abuse and child protection.

I work with over 16's and am also trained in understanding neurodiversity and its impact on individuals, relationships and families.

I currently work in private practice in Leeds and Wakefield, and I also work in third sector leadership.

My first session

Our first session will involve us getting to know each other a little, and making an agreement about how we are going to work together.  We'll talk about the things you'd like to explore in your counselling, what your ideal goals and outcomes are and about how you will remain safe whilst we do this.

We'll talk about the boundaries of the client-counsellor relationship and about what we can expect from each other in our work.  We'll also talk about the confidential nature of counselling and what that means for you.

I work from my home on the edge of Leeds and Wakefield.

I currently offer sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified supervisor, having trained under Bob Cooke of the Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy.

I currently work in private practice from my home on the edge of Leeds and Wakefield.

Although I am Person-Centred trained, I am open to working with therapists from different modalities and welcome enquiries.

I offer an initial meeting either in person or by phone/Zoom so that we can learn a little about each other, decide whether we feel we would be a good fit for a supervisory relationship, and then to understand what you would like from your supervision and agree a working contract.

I have significant experience in working with a broad range of issues, but in particular addiction, child and adult bereavement, baby loss, neurodiversity. I also have extensive experience of counselling within organisational settings as well is an private practice.

Practice description

My own practice is essentially person-centred, although I always aim to work in the best interest of my client which may mean that I sometimes integrate techniques from other modalities that I have undergone training in.

I am also trained and accredited in the trauma therapy Rewind, having being trained directly by Dr Muss in 2018.

In my supervision practice I use Shohet and Hawkins 7-eyed model of supervision.

My first session

In our first session we will work to understand a little about each other and decide together whether we think we are a good fit for a supervisory relationship.

If we decide to go ahead, we will agree a supervisor/supervisee contract and establish clarity around what you want from your supervision and supervisor, what your individual learning style is, what kind of clients you work with, caseload size etc.

I hope that we can foster the start of a professional, friendly, supportive and safe relationship where you can feel comfortable sharing your practice and professional development with me.
