About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, I’m Tom.
I’m a therapist who works with adults looking to make meaningful changes in their lives. Many of the people I work with are dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, identity questions, low self-esteem, existential concerns, or are in the midst of major life changes. Others come to therapy to explore themselves more deeply, to challenge and change unhelpful behaviours, or to navigate parenting struggles.
I have particular experience supporting queer communities and neurodivergent individuals, and I tailor our work to meet your unique needs, wants and goals. This work is about helping you move forward, with greater clarity, understanding, and direction.
Over the past nine years, I’ve provided more than 6,000 hours of therapy. My approach draws on a blend of therapeutic models, shaped by what works best for you.
Therapy with me is focused, collaborative, and grounded in real-life experience. I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship - I believe real change happens when there’s trust, honesty, and genuine connection between us. You won’t get jargon or a blank face; you’ll get a real human who’s here to listen, reflect, and work with you. Whatever you’re facing, I’m here to help you navigate it.
My qualifications include:
MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice
Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
Diploma in Supervision
Counselling trainer for aspiring therapists
Sessions are 50 minutes, held weekly, and take place online. All work is confidential.
If you’re thinking about starting therapy, please get in touch. I’m happy to answer any questions and arrange an initial consultation.
Practice description
How does it work?
When you get in touch, we will have a conversation to find out what support you may be looking for and for you to get a feel for if I am the right therapist for you. We can then arrange an initial session / assessment.
There will be no obligation to continue with sessions after the initial assessment, it is important for you to decide if you feel comfortable and wish to work with me.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are on a weekly basis at the same time on the same day. I am currently unable to offer fortnightly sessions for new clients due to availability. Sessions are priced at £70.00.
My first session
The first session is a mix of an initial session with an assessment. In this session you will have the time to speak more about what’s going on for you and the reasons for seeking Therapy. You may also have some goals you wish to work towards that we can explore. There will be a few questions I will ask, and you will hopefully get a feel for how you find working with me.
We won’t dive in too deep to quickly as it is important for us to develop a therapeutic relationship to help you feel comfortable to explore things deeper.
Towards the end of the session, you can then decide if I'm the right Therapist for you and what you would like to do with sessions going forward. You may wish to work long term, open ended or to a set number of sessions.
What I can help with
Abuse, ADD / ADHD, AIDS/HIV, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Business coaching, Cancer, Child related issues, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Men's issues, Obsessions, OCD, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues

Hi, I’m Tom – a supervisor, therapist, tutor, and writer. You can learn more about me on my website or over on Instagram at @newhcounselling.
Supervision sessions are available on a fortnightly, monthly, or ad hoc basis. Each session is 50 minutes long and costs £80.
My approach to supervision is grounded in relationship, offering you the kind of support that’s truly relevant and responsive to your individual needs. I tailor my style to suit you, creating a space where you feel supported, understood, and professionally nurtured.
I hold qualifications in counselling, psychotherapy, clinical supervision, business administration, and media production. These diverse skills inform and enrich my work as a supervisor, allowing me to bring a broad and flexible perspective to our sessions.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Tom – a supervisor, therapist, tutor, and writer. You can learn more about me on my website or over on Instagram at @newhcounselling.
What Supervision with Me Looks Like
I aim to offer a different kind of supervision, one that draws on my range of experience to support you as a whole person, not just a practitioner.
Yes, the primary goal of supervision is to support the wellbeing of your clients, but I don’t forget you in the process. Your needs, growth, and challenges matter just as much.
Many of the supervisees I work with are building or expanding private practices, juggling self-employment, or navigating the stress that can come with running a business. So alongside clinical support, I also bring in elements of business strategy, marketing advice, and personal resilience.
Supervision with me is a space for:
• Exploring your work with clients
• Developing your professional identity and confidence
• Working on your "growing edges"—those areas you’re still discovering or strengthening
• Bringing authenticity into your practice, whether you’re volunteering, working in an organisation, or running your own practice
And most importantly: this is a shame free space. We all have sessions that don’t go the way we hoped. That’s part of being human and part of the work. You don’t have to hide those moments. Bring them in, and we’ll use them to grow.
What I Ask of You
• Be open and engaged in building a strong working relationship
• Come prepared with a rough idea of what you’d like to focus on each session
• Be ready to talk through your client work, challenges, and wins
• Be open to giving and receiving feedback
• In emergencies, reach out to me or seek alternative supervision as needed
• And again - don’t be afraid to bring in sessions that felt messy or uncertain. That’s often where the best work happens.

What to Expect When Working With Me
Supervision sessions are available on a fortnightly, monthly, or ad hoc basis. Each session is 50 minutes long and costs £80.
At this time, I’m only able to offer 50-minute sessions. If you’re looking for 1.5 hours of supervision per month, this can be arranged as two 45-minute sessions across the month.
My approach to therapy and supervision is informed by an awareness of intersectionality. I have a particular focus on working with queer and neurodivergent clients, and I bring that understanding into the supervision space as well.
I’ve been in private practice since 2018, offering an integrative therapeutic approach and accumulating over 6000 clinical hours. My client work has supported people dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, identity, self-esteem, parenting, adoption, existential concerns, and the broader search for meaning.
Many of my clients come to therapy during periods of change, or when they want to better understand themselves, challenge unhelpful patterns, or move toward personal growth.
In addition to private practice, I’ve worked with several well-established counselling organisations, gaining a broad range of experience. This includes:
• Place2Be – providing therapeutic support to children (ages 7–10).
• St Christopher’s Hospice – supporting adults through grief as part of the bereavement team.
• METRO Charity – working with LGBTQ+ clients, asylum seekers, and people living with or affected by HIV.
All of this informs my work as a supervisor, offering you a wide and inclusive foundation to support your own practice and development.
My first session
When you get in touch we can arrange an initial supervision appointment. In this first appointment we can get to know each other and get a feel for if we are a good fit, there will also be time for you to discuss your client work. Should you then feel I am the supervisor for you we can arrange ongoing monthly or fortnightly supervision.
