About me and my therapy practice
Hi and welcome to my listing.
Something is happening in your life right now that finds you searching for a therapist - perhaps a devastating event has occurred, perhaps destructive patterns keep playing out, you're struggling in relationships, perhaps things from the past are wreaking havoc in the present. Or perhaps you aren't quite sure why you are looking.
But something in your gut brings you here, so well done. All those scenarios mentioned above, and lots more, are what I can help you with by weekly talking in a safe, non-judgemental, confidential space.
As well as running private practice, I have worked in agency setting focussed on addiction / alcohol abuse and domestic violence.
I offer short term (minimum six sessions) or open ended 1:1 therapy. This can be online, face to face or on the phone.
Practice description
I'm a friendly therapist who will ask lots of questions, so I can really get to understand how you experience the world. I'm interested in hearing about your past and formative relationships, as there is so much to be learnt about how you are in the present by looking back at the past. And over time, we'll delve into more unconscious feelings. In my experience, some of the most powerful moments of therapy are when together we really uncover your patterns in life that may not be serving you well, and importantly, why you have those patterns. This self-awareness is a tool to make better choices moving forward.
I'm an integrative relational therapist, the integrative meaning my training looked at a variety of different models, as opposed to picking a lane, so to speak. Relational means a focus on relationships, and that includes my relationship with you - this can so often be a microcosm of how you relate to people in your day to day and can offer much self-learning.
Research over the years has shown that the model is not as important as the relationship between client and counsellor, and this is at the core of my approach to therapy.
My first session
After we have had initial communication, either email or phone, we can book in the initial assessment session (this can be online, phone or face to face). This costs £30, lasting 50 minutes. This is a chance for me to get to grips with the key areas that may be explored in therapy with you, and an overview of yourself.
Importantly, it also gives you the time to experience what I am like as a therapist.
If, after the assessment session, we both feel we could work together, I will then send an agreement document about our counselling arrangement. This goes through the payment processes, misses sessions, holidays, as well as my ethical framework around confidentiality. We'll find our weekly slot and begin the work.
I offer either online, phone or face to face in Stroud, so either you'll come to a town centre location (I'll send the details once we've confirmed) or I'll send you a zoom link / phone number.
