About me and my therapy practice

If you are considering therapy, it might be due to a rough patch that has turned your world upside down or a lingering feeling of being lost or stuck. You might be battling anxiety or depression, feeling the weight of old wounds in your current relationships and life, or sensing that life's just not what you thought it would be. These internal battles can be disorienting, making every day a little harder to face.

In therapy, we will work together to shine a light on the patterns you are tired of repeating, the thoughts that keep you awake at night, and the feelings that have no name yet. We will explore your inner world to help you create a more meaningful future. Sometimes it’s not the big emotions that are the issue, but the subtle ways we have been conditioned to deal with them, ways that might not be serving us well.

I have found that knowledge can really empower our personal journey. That’s why I have put together some easy-to-follow mini-courses to complement our therapy sessions. I invite you to check out the courses section at www.mentemira.com and start learning at your own pace.

Practice description

As a psychotherapist, I am guided by the principle that understanding our past and present shapes a more balanced future. My goal is to offer you a safe space where you can explore these connections, uncovering insights that lead to personal growth and fulfilment.

At the heart of my practice is a profound interest in fostering quality relationships, both with ourselves and with others. My special interest in trauma and attachment theory shapes the way I work, helping you understand how past relationships and experiences influence your current view of yourself and the world. I am experienced in navigating through issues related to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low confidence, abuse, and relationship and family difficulties.

My core training included person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, along with existential approaches. I have done further training in ACT and EFT. While my practice is guided by psychodynamic principles, I embrace a pluralistic perspective, recognizing that multiple paths can lead to change and personal growth. To ensure that my practice remains current and effective, I continually engage in professional development and supervision

While I deeply value the power of active listening, I see therapy as a two-way street. I bring myself into our sessions, offering interpretations, reflections, and insights. We will work collaboratively, always checking in on how things are unfolding for you and adjusting our approach as needed.

I have spent a significant part of my career managing a counselling service at a charity in London, where I have had the chance to support many people while also supervising other therapists. Beyond this, I have been involved in educational settings, offering my skills in tutoring and research. I have also contributed to a domestic violence charity, helping those facing the impact of abuse. Throughout, my goal has always been to create a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone I work with.

In our first session, we will begin by exploring what has led you to seek therapy now. We may touch on your current difficulties, your relationships, and aspects of your history that feel important. It is also a space to see whether the way I work feels helpful to you.

About me and my therapy practice

Laura Alonso Mira

Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Clinical Supervisor

MÂ鶹ԭ´´ (Accred)

I provide individual and group clinical supervision and reflective practice to trainees and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, counselling psychologists and professionals working in high-stress environments across private practice, charities and NHS services. My clinical work has included colleges, domestic violence agencies, supported accommodation services and private practice.

For over 10 years, I have managed a counselling service, leading a team of 15–20 counsellors and overseeing clinical governance, safeguarding, and risk management. A central part of my role involves supporting the team’s clinical development and providing guidance on work involving suicide risk, safeguarding concerns, complex and developmental trauma, and high levels of emotional distress.

In addition, I have worked as a tutor at the University of East London, supporting skills practice and supervising trainee work, as well as marking academic assignments.

Practice description

My supervisory style is relational and reflective. I draw on the 7-Eyed Model of supervision to think systemically about the client’s world, your interventions, the therapeutic relationship, your emotional responses, and the wider organisational context influencing the work. I am particularly interested in helping therapists make sense of unconscious processes within the therapeutic relationship, noticing what may be happening beneath the surface, in the room, and between us.

I aim to offer a containing and supportive space, while also bringing challenge where needed. If you are in training or early in your career, I understand how exposing and demanding this stage can feel, and I aim to create a supervisory relationship where you can think openly, feel supported, and develop confidence in your clinical voice. Supervision is a part of my work that I genuinely enjoy, and trainees have shared that they value the openness and collaborative nature of the space.

My core training was pluralistic and included person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT and existential approaches. Over time, my work has become more strongly informed by psychodynamic and attachment-based thinking, underpinned by trauma-informed principles. I also have an interest in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have extensive experience working with early trauma, anxiety, depression and complex relational dynamics.

I hold an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision and remain committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice. If you feel my approach resonates with you, I would be glad to hear from you.

My first session

In our first session, we would explore your current practice, the setting you work in, your caseload, and what you are hoping for from supervision. We might also talk about any concerns you bring, as well as your previous experiences of supervision.
