About me and my therapy practice
I鈥檓 Sarah Janes, a queer, trauma-informed therapist dedicated to helping people make sense of what feels overwhelming, painful, or difficult to name.
How do you know if you have trauma?
You might feel anxious, low, disconnected, or trapped in the same patterns, without knowing why. Trauma, particularly cumulative trauma isn't usually about one big event, it can be the affect of a lack of emotional attunement from a young age, stress, loss, difficult relationships, or experiences that left you feeling unseen or unsafe.
My practice offers a safe, relational and confidential space to explore how trauma affects both mind and body. Many people find it hard to talk about their past, avoidance is a natural response to pain. I work at your pace, focusing first on stability and emotional safety before moving into deeper work.
My approach is rooted in Person Centred Counselling, drawing on the ideas of Carl Rogers: empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard. I also integrate Internal Family Systems and structural dissociation to help make sense of how trauma can cause parts of the self to fragment, leaving us feeling 'not like ourselves.' Gently, we work to bring these parts into connection fostering self-compassion, balance and wholeness.
Alongside trauma work, I have extensive experience supporting people through loss, bereavement, long term health challenges and identity exploration.
If you鈥檙e ready to explore how trauma may be shaping your life, I offer an initial consultation to see if we鈥檙e the right fit.

My practice provides a calm, confidential space to explore what feels difficult or overwhelming at a pace that feels right for you.
As a member of the LGBT+ community, I have a particular interest in supporting clients navigating identity, belonging, and the impact of minority stress. Together, we can work towards understanding and integrating these experiences, fostering greater self-acceptance and ease in relationships.
I support clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, identity and relationship challenges, as well as loss and long-term health issues. Whether you鈥檙e seeking short-term support or longer-term therapy, my aim is to offer a steady, relational space where healing can unfold safely and at your own pace.

About me and my therapy practice
My priority is to create a safe and comfortable space for you. I recognise that if you鈥檝e experienced trauma, you might not feel ready to explore your past just yet, and that鈥檚 okay. It鈥檚 important to note that while the past is often present, like an echo, it doesn鈥檛 need to be the sole focus of our work together.
I鈥檒l be with you every step of the way, working at your pace and keeping in mind that your capacity to cope can shift depending on your current life circumstances. Sometimes, ongoing stress or significant life events can make it difficult to address deeper issues. In those moments, we can concentrate on what鈥檚 immediately troubling you, which can serve as a stepping stone to deeper healing later on.
I believe in the power of understanding how trauma affects your brain and body. By sharing this insight with you, I hope to empower you and help you build the confidence to tackle these challenges, even when they feel overwhelming.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is essential to this process. I prioritse ensuring you feel emotionally safe before we delve into any trauma work. Together, we鈥檒l create a nurturing space where you can approach your experiences gently, at a pace that feels right for you.
Ultimately, my approach is centred around safety, self-paced exploration, and the belief that healing is absolutely achievable. In our fast-paced world, where traditional support systems may feel lacking, therapists serve as modern healers. Healing from trauma requires connection, understanding, and a sense of community. Together, we can reclaim your narrative and embark on a meaningful journey toward healing and safety.
Practice description
I鈥檓 Sarah Janes, a queer, trauma-informed therapist dedicated to helping individuals navigate the complexities of trauma, including depression, anxiety, dissociation, and relationship challenges. My practice is focused on creating a safe, relational and confidential space for clients to explore their experiences and feelings, particularly those stemming from trauma.
My therapeutic approach is on understanding how trauma affects the mind and body. Many clients struggle with discussing their traumatic experiences due to avoidance, a natural response to pain. I respect this instinct and work at each client鈥檚 pace, recognising that healing requires safety and readiness. This means addressing immediate challenges in life before diving into deeper issues, allowing clients to build the emotional resources necessary for healing.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is crucial; I prioritise creating a supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore their trauma without pressure or haste.
I draw on the framework of Carl Rogers and Person-Centred Counselling, offering a compassionate, non-judgemental space for exploration and healing. Alongside this, I incorporate theories such as internal family systems and structural dissociation, which help explain how trauma can cause parts of the personality to split, often resulting in a sense of disconnection or 鈥渘ot feeling like yourself.鈥 By recognising the signs of dissociation, we can begin to gently reconnect the emotional and everyday parts of the self, working towards greater integration and wholeness.
I also have extensive experience working with loss and bereavement, having volunteered at Caris Bereavement Agency and worked for the NHS and Positive East.
If you're ready to explore your trauma and its effects on your life, I invite you to reach out for more information or to book an initial consultation. Together, we can work toward healing and reclaiming your narrative.
