About me and my therapy practice

I’m here to help you know that you always have choices, as well as the courage to take them.

People often come to me when they feel they’re in a tight corner, looking only at walls and dead ends. Together, we work so that you can turn to face outwards instead, seeing the open space and paths available.

After 4 years of training and my subsequent work within organisations as a volunteer counsellor, I started my private psychotherapy practice in Heaton Moor 8 years ago to ensure I could offer a bespoke service to every client. An important underpinning of my approach is acceptance, and without imposed limits of set session numbers or stipulations of frequency, I can tailor our work to your wants and needs.

I’ll meet you where you’re at without judgement, and will get to know you — your experiences, your points of view, your thoughts, and your feelings — so that we can explore whatever you’re looking to work through.

I won’t spend the whole session just nodding and smiling sympathetically at you: I’ll ask questions, I’ll reflect back to you, and I’ll actively engage with what you’re saying, while guiding us through a therapeutic framework. Above all, I’ll create a secure, stable environment in which you can explore how you feel, and what we can do about it.

If you feel trapped, you deserve to feel freed.

When I’m not at work, I’m usually doing something to do with food (whether that’s cooking, eating, or finding new recipes), reading, or watching tv quizzes and the enjoyable nonsense that is The Masked Singer.

Practice description

I work individually with adults aged 18 and up across a wide range of areas and experiences, but I have a special interest in the following:

  • Overfunctioners who take responsibility for themselves and others, but have become over-whelmed, anxious or burnt out;
  • People who believe they are not good enough in some areas of their life or worry about what others are thinking about them;
  • Those feeling a lack of connection to themselves and/or others, leading to loneliness or a reduction in confidence and surety about who they are and how to be.
  • Anyone feeling trapped and wishing to be free

My practice is based in Heaton Moor, Stockport. The space I use is warm, comfortable and spacious with windows to allow in natural light and fresh air. My rooms are on the first floor of a building accessible by a flight of stairs.

Heaton Moor is very easy to get to from the Stockport and Manchester areas, with local parking available, bus services on the doorstep and is a short walk from Heaton Chapel train station.

My first session

First sessions with me are very similar to all sessions, as they are a full therapeutic hour and will give you a really good idea of what working with me is like.

By the end of the session you will have a clear idea of what we will be working on together and how I can help.

After meeting me for the first time, clients often report feeling lighter, relieved and glad they took the first step.
