About me and my therapy practice
My name is Sarah Edge and I specialise in providing person-centred counselling psychotherapy for pregnant and postnatal women and people, including mothers and birthing parents of older children. I offer sessions online, by phone, and face to face from Thrive Wellbeing Hub in Sale, Manchester.
Having a baby is perhaps one of the biggest psychological, physical and emotional adjustments you may ever experience. It is not unusual to notice an increase in anxiety or a decrease in mood during this time. You may have experienced difficulties conceiving, challenges during pregnancy, miscarriage and/or baby loss, birth trauma, or difficulties following birth; perhaps with feeding, pelvic health, sleep, or adjusting to life with a new baby. These experiences often occur alongside the demands of everyday life, and sometimes alongside other grief, stress or past trauma, all of which can impact mood and mental health in motherhood.
I am a qualified, experienced and accredited therapist, and also a mother of two young children. My own experience of postnatal mental ill health inspired me to develop this specialist perinatal service.
Practice description
I provide person-centred counselling and psychotherapy (talking therapy), specialising in pre- and postnatal mental health and related issues. I usually work with mothers up to five years postpartum, but if your children are older and you would still like space to reflect on your experience of motherhood, please feel free to get in touch.
I believe that making, carrying, birthing and raising babies can involve loss, physical and emotional trauma, and a significant period of adjustment. All women deserve time and support to recover both physically and emotionally.
I aim to offer therapy that is accessible, affordable and flexible. You are welcome to bring your baby if childcare is a barrier to accessing therapy. I also offer sessions by phone if leaving the house feels difficult, and you can book either ad hoc or regular sessions depending on your needs, budget, childcare and availability.
I offer a mix of morning, afternoon and evening appointments Monday to Thursday. Sessions are 50 minutes and priced at £79.
I hold undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Psychology, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am accredited by the Â鶹Դ´ and have extensive experience supporting pregnant and new mothers. I also maintain professional relationships with a number of recognised charities & organisations supporting parents and run the growing social media page @maternalmentalhealthwellbeing.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Sarah Edge, and I run Edge Therapy from Thrive Wellbeing Hub in Sale.
I provide counselling, psychotherapy, and supervision, with a focus on pre- and postnatal mental health and related issues. I work online, by phone, and face to face.
My therapy style is grounded in a person-centred approach, integrating elements from compassion-focused and trauma-informed models. I centre my work around five key principles: acknowledging trauma, loss and adjustment; normalising psychological distress in the perinatal period; psychoeducation; experiencing compassion; and authenticity.
I offer a personalised and person-centred approach to postpartum psychological care. I specialise in supporting women through perinatal mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression compounded by hormonal changes, difficulties conceiving, pregnancy, birth, baby loss, infant feeding, and the postnatal period. I am passionate about supporting women during some of the most vulnerable and life-changing times in their lives. I also recognise that making, carrying, birthing, and raising babies can involve loss, physical and emotional trauma, and believe women deserve time and support to recover.
I hold undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Counselling & Psychotherapy, as well as a Master’s degree in Advanced Counselling & Psychotherapy (Supervision). I have further training as a supervisor and trainer, whilst working for two large UK charities including the NSPCC and Place2Be.
I am best suited to supervising practitioners working with women, mothers, life transitions, and related fields. I welcome enquiries from trainee and student counsellors on placement, as well as those providing professional supervision in peer support roles for charities or community projects.
Practice description
I take a person-centred approach to clinical supervision and believe that good supervision, like good therapy, doesn’t need to be fussy or complicated. I aim to provide a supportive and respectful environment where you feel safe to explore your clinical practice, fostering your growth and development as a therapist.
I tend to structure supervision around three main areas: your needs as a person and practitioner, the needs of your clients and your client work, and your professional growth and development—along with my role in supporting these areas. I believe the supervision relationship should be grounded in mutual respect, professionalism, and shared experience, guided by your professional and supervisory goals. Supervision should be empowering, and also an enjoyable process.
I also offer professional consultations for questions about developing a private practice or working with perinatal mental health. These can be arranged as one-off sessions or regular/semi-regular sessions, whether you already have a supervisor in place or are preparing for client work.
I work online, by phone, and face to face in Sale, South Manchester.
