About me and my therapy practice
Something has led you here right now, scrolling to find the right person who can help with how you’re feeling. This could be because something has recently happened or it may be something that has happened in the past. There may be feelings, thoughts and behaviours that are so intense, difficult to understand and manage and that are possibly keeping you stuck with a sense of being unable to cope. We find ourselves managing in certain ways which impacts and influences our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. You may want things to change or want to change something about yourself. This is where counselling can help.
Counselling can help you understand, explore and make sense of what is happening to you, whether you know what’s causing your distress or not. It provides a space where you can be you and you can be heard.
I aim to offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space working empathetically around you. We will explore and work together in finding ways to achieve your goals. I am committed to listening to you and to work alongside you so you may develop your own understanding and awareness, enabling you to find your own answers and creating your own changes.
Practice description
So who am I, I am an Accredited Humanistic Integrative Counsellor which means I draw upon the core models of my training - Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. This enables me to work in a way that is comfortable and right for you, blending theories to assist and nurture your own inner resources and to focus on what you are finding difficult. I will facilitate you along your journey and will tailor therapy to your own needs whilst being respectful of your own unique experiences. My role is to support and help you navigate the challenges that may be present, finding new ways for you to continue to carry forward into the future.
I value the unique and individual qualities which you already hold and will offer respect and compassion so we may work together with what you are finding difficult.
I have extensive experience working within my own private practice and as part of my counselling journey I have had the privilege to volunteer at St Peters and St James Hospice providing counselling for carers, friends and family of bereaved loved ones. I have also supported individuals and couples as a counsellor at Pavilions Drug and Alcohol service in addition to working for a number of years with a charity providing counselling for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
Having experienced personal therapy myself, I know how daunting counselling can be. I also know how powerful and healing, given the right environment, how counselling can nurture, help us grow and find a greater confidence within ourselves and our world around us.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute telephone or Zoom introductory session. This allows us to explore your needs and to help me understand what has brought you to this point. My aim is to find out a little more about you and your experiences and to provide you the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns you may have. It also helps us to assess whether I can provide the right support that you are looking for and for you to gain a sense of who I am, and if I am the right person for you. At the end of this call we can decide how best to proceed. There is no obligation to book any sessions following this and I would recommend speaking to a few counsellors before making a decision. It is really important to find the ‘right fit’ so you feel safe enough to get what you need.
I am more than happy to discuss or answer any questions by email prior to arranging an introductory session if you prefer.
