About me and my therapy practice

We all have times in life when we find it difficult to cope. It may be that you are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety or relationship problems. Having someone to talk to can lighten the load. As a result of our work together, a healing relationship can be developed.

My belief is that the process of being listened to, in a non- judgmental way may offer a new sense of freedom to explore parts of your self and your life that you previously may not have felt safe enough to venture into.

I will work to offer compassion and calm, guiding and gently probing so new light may shine. This will be held together by the sense of security you may feel from the safe space (the room we agree to meet in); and the safety of the boundaries in place (the time we agree to meet each week). Having this stability in what can sometimes feel like a bit of a whirlwind can sometimes initiate change.

Location

I work from two  locations in Bristol:

Sycamore House in Kingswood, and

Warmley Wellness Centre, Warmley

Both these spaces provide a welcoming, calm and tranquil setting to allow you space for your thoughts and emotions.  They also have good transport links and parking facilities so you can arrive to the sessions with minimal disruption.

Taking those steps

If you would like to make contact I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible as i understand that reaching out in itself can be a big step.

Firstly we would arrange an introductory session where we would both get a feel for what it might be like to work together.

If in agreement we would then arrange a set time and place to meet each week. Each session lasts  for 50 minutes.

Cost

Sessions cost £50.00 per session.

I have a few sessions available at the concessionary rate of £30.00 for those on low income or the unemployed.  This could be discussed between us.

Practice description

I will listen in a non- judgemental way to whatever is bothering you or is on your mind. Through the relationship that we  may begin to form together we can explore different areas and pathways.

I believe in your ownership of this process and I am open  to talking about how you are finding the process.

I work on both a short term and long term basis according to your needs and the depth of the work. This is something we will talk about in the first session.

My first session

The first session is charged at the usual rate of £50 and lasts for fifty minutes. The relationship we form together can often be central to the work we do and this is where it starts.

Coming along to your first session can feel a bit daunting. You may be a bit nervous, you may feel a bit uncertain. This is something that might be acknowledged or spoken about if you would like and will be in my awareness.

In this first session  I will take some details from you and  I will ask you some questions about you and your situation. There is plenty of time for us to also talk together in a way which would be typical of a future session so that we can both have a taste of how that might be.

Availability

I currently have space for Walk and Talk sessions at Oldbury Court, Fishponds. Please feel free to contact me about this so we can talk about what you might be looking for and to learn about what i offer. If this matches up we can then arrange to have an initial session together.

About me and my therapy practice

We all have times when if life when things seem to get on top of us. We may feel confused, anxious or depressed. Sometimes it can feel like we are going round in circles, but getting nowhere in particular. Having someone to talk to can lighten the load and this is often easier with someone other than family or friends.

My belief is that the process of being listened to, in a non- judgemental way may offer a new freedom to explore the parts of yourself that previously you may not have felt secure enough to venture into.

I offer Walk and Talk sessions at Oldbury Court in Fishponds.

Together we can utilise the opportunity of being outdoors in nature to enhance this experience.

For some, being outdoors and walking side by side can lessen anxiety and feelings of discomfort that may arise from a room setting where eye contact can sometimes feels too much. Silences may be embraced as we marvel at our surroundings , or settle with just 'being'.

This also offer potential for creative interventions and for learning about yourself in ways that words cannot always achieve. Maybe it feels more comfortable for you to be outdoors than in the confines of a room setting.

Practice description

I work in a person- centred and humanistic way, with influences from other frameworks. I am here to walk alongside you, offering compassion and warmth as we can allow ourselves to indulge in the surroundings.

Walk and talk sessions offer the opportunity to get in touch with our bodies and our breath. This can offer physical, mental and emotional benefits as well as helping us to ground ourselves.

It has been shown that walking can have a calming effect on the nervous system and can help with creativity and tendencies to 'be in our heads' and overthink.

Being in nature helps us to escape the confines of our busy lives and to pause to reflect on our bodily selves.

The sessions do not have to be mapped out. I have no agenda. Instead it is up to you to set the pace, to decide if you would like to sit for a while, or whether you like to keep walking. I am open to potential and may be this is something you would like to explore for yourself.

I am open to working with a diverse range of situations. My work often involves helping people to make sense of depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, low self- esteem and relationship problems. Or maybe it is about allowing some time and space for yourself.

Whatever your motivations, my intentions are to  receive you with a warm curiosity and a deep sense of empathy.

My first session

If you make contact with me I aim to get back to you as soon as possible as I understand that you have already made a big step. Together we can arrange our initial session. This will be by phone, online or in the room. It is important for us to discuss your needs and your suitability for Walk and talk sessions before we can begin.

If we both agree that we would like to work together in this way we would then arrange to meet at Oldbury Court in Fishponds. I will send the final details by email,  as well as meeting arrangements.

The sessions last for 60 minutes and will be charged at the cost of £55.00

During our time together we can review how you are finding the sessions. You do not have to commit to a certain number of sessions, and I work in both short and long term ways.

Sometimes the area you came to explore triggers other areas and more time is needed. In other cases, working through the initial problem can be enough.

It is my belief that being in nature in itself can be therapeutic and already you have made a contribution to yourself in allowing this time and space.
