About me and my therapy practice

I have lived a long life, but I am also open and curious in a childlike way. People see me as wise, smiley, warm and able to name things sensitively but accurately; call a spade a spade!

I have earned two university degrees; one in linguistics and literature and later in life - in psychology. I am also qualified as counsellor and psychotherapist and I am accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Therapy with more than 20 years of experience.

I lived in four countries and I easily gauge cultural differences; I offer therapy in three languages English, Russian and Bulgarian

My Approach

I am humanistic integrative counsellor/psychotherapist which means that I apply all known major models of human personality that are underpinned by the humanistic philosophy. The idea is that we are all different and the experiences that we need to understand, and alter are too complex to be interpreted by one model only. It also means that in our psyche there are several sub-personalities/parts and the noise/disturbance in our head often is caused by the disagreement of those parts.

The work therefore aims at integrating those internal voices and creating a choir that is well in tune and in good harmony.

My believes

It is important that you are willing to change and that you practice that willingness between the sessions. It is important that you understand the complexity of what is to be achieved and are not looking for magic solutions, shortcuts and easy answers. For that reason, it is essential that you lead.

I strongly believe that we need to work not towards what is right and what is good but towards what works for you and what is useful in your daily life.

You can read more on my website at www.findingbalance.org.uk.

Practice description

I work in my own private practice as a therapist and a supervisor. At my west LondonI practice I see people both in person and/or online using platforms like Zoom etc. Booking the same time slot once a week yields the best results but flexibility and understanding is at the heart of my work.

My first session

The first session I call «Assessment session» and it is a one off meeting with no commitment to continue. At that you get to tell your story to cover the following questions:

- What was the immediate prompt that made you get in touch

- What is the story of your life

- What would you like to achieve

- Have you had other experiences in therapy, counselling, psychoanalysis.

At the end of that session I will tell you what I made of your story, whether your goals are achievable, and how I propose to work towards them.

This is a one off session for you to gain impressions whether you could work with me and for myself to decide if I am able to help you. There is a video of me speaking on my website to enable you to gain some idea of what is to expect.

Following that session and a period of consideration, if you have decided to continue, I then would offer you six sessions based on an achievable goal with a review on the fifth session to assess the progress and make a further decision: to continue and open the exploration or to end after the next session.

If you decided to continue the reviews were to follow every six or so sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

I qualified as a Supervisor in 2014 in Re-vision in London. I have supervised in Paul’s Cancer Support Charity for 8 years. I also see individual supervisees mostly online but in person is also possible. In line with the Jungian idea about the field between the people in a given space I see supervision as a research and a process of discovery. I am also capable of naming what I perceive in collaborative and open manner. Mutual respect is priceless in this field, I strongly believe that. Supervision is a place of seeing what could be invisible for the person while working with a client while retaining the spirit of exploration.

Practice description

I work from home where we converted one of the bedrooms into a counselling room (visual of which is available on my website at www.fundingbalance.org.uk). I see people in person there. I also offer the online option using my MacBook Pro laptop enabling me to see the client /Supervisee well. The supervision process works better, I find, if it is a double session (1 hour and 55 minutes) so usually I propose this format. Single and more frequent encounters (55 minutes) are also possible.

My first session

The first session is about getting to know each other and laying the scene for the work. It will be all about you as a therapist, your practice and also about setting some boundaries. Just like with my therapy clients, this session is aiming at getting the impressions, sensing the potential for connection between the two of us and leaving it with no commitment for more. As I like saying, « I am not a therapist for everyone » which is equally true for my supervision capability: I am not universally applicable supervisor - not for everyone. You have to try it on first and decide. whether I am good for you.
