About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Jamie. I have worked with adults and young people in education and as a therapist for over twenty years. I offer in-person one-to-one short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy in Brighton at my private practice room in Hanover and outdoors. I work mindfully of intersectionality, cultural diversity, beliefs and values and am experienced working with:

  • childhood and intergenerational trauma
  • self-esteem and confidence
  • anger | depression | anxiety and panic
  • education and workplace difficulties
  • body issues, obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours
  • relationship and family difficulties
  • loss and bereavement
  • disrupted childhoods, care experience (growing up in the care system), adoptees and becoming a foster carer
  • queer, gender, sexual and relationship diversity
  • neurodivergence - autism, AD(H)D, dyslexia and dyspraxia
  • visible and non-visible disability, long-term health conditions and illness

You may be thinking about counselling or psychotherapy because you’re feeling stuck, carrying the weight of past experiences, or looking for new direction and change. You might simply want to understand yourself better and live with more vitality.

I offer a warm and confidential space to listen and support you to explore, reflect and understand your feelings and experiences. The space we create together can support the exploration of a range of emotions and experiences that can be challenging but equally involve humour and laughter and lead to insight, understanding, growth and change.

Practice description

My mixture of experience means that when working with me, you can expect:

  • Sensitive to difference and intersectionality
  • Rooted in understanding both history (family, systemic, educational) and present experience
  • Collaborative — I’ll listen, adapt, and work with your own pace, preferences, and needs
  • Grounded in both practical support (managing day-to-day challenges) and deeper exploration (patterns, identity, belonging)

A Space for You

Therapy with me is a space where you can slow down, be heard, and explore what matters most to you. Together, we’ll look at what might be getting in the way of love, connection, and vitality in your life and discovering what could help you feel more fully alive.

Collaborative and Flexible

We’ll work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and patterns, always at a pace that feels right for you. I adapt my approach to each person and draw from:

  • Relational therapy – focusing on the importance of human connection.
  • Psychodynamic therapy – exploring how past experiences shape the present.
  • Neuroscience and body-based practices – supporting mind and body work together in healing.
  • Social justice perspectives – acknowledging the role of culture, identity, and systemic issues in mental wellbeing.

What You Might Experience in Our Work

  • Feeling listened to, without judgment.
  • Gaining insight into relational patterns and how they affect you today.
  • Developing new ways of relating to yourself and others.
  • Building resilience, self-compassion, and a stronger sense of self.
