About me and my therapy practice
I help people with low self-esteem, chronic self-doubt and a tendency to put others first, reconnect with their own authority and trust their decisions. The work focuses on building confidence, self-worth and a stronger, more compassionate relationship with themselves.
These patterns can make it hard to listen to yourself, make decisions without second-guessing or tolerate your own emotions without guilt. You may feel 鈥渢oo much鈥 or 鈥渘ot enough,鈥 struggle to assert your needs or constantly adjust yourself to keep others happy. Even if you understand why these patterns exist, or have tried therapy before, they can feel persistent and difficult to shift.
These internal difficulties often ripple into relationships, leaving you unsure of how to respond, overly cautious about others鈥 reactions or disconnected from your own feelings. Through therapy, you can reconnect to your needs, desires and emotions, recognise the patterns that keep you stuck and develop confidence, clarity and security in yourself.
I have particular experience supporting people who struggle with over-giving, chronic self-doubt, difficulty saying 鈥渘o,鈥 emotional overwhelm and self-neglect 鈥 all of which can undermine self-worth, intimacy and connection. Therapy provides a safe, supportive space to explore these patterns and build a more grounded, internally-guided sense of self.
Practice description
My approach is informed primarily by Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an evidence-based method that works directly with the emotional roots of long-standing patterns such as people-pleasing, self-doubt and low self-esteem. ISTDP focuses on unconscious processes and protective strategies that continue to affect self-worth, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Gaining insight into your patterns is important, but lasting change comes from engaging with the emotional conflicts that underlie them. In sessions, we pay close attention to your emotional experience as it arises, helping you transform long-standing patterns at their source. This approach allows you to uncover and work through habits that maintain difficulties, including self-neglect, over-adaptation and avoidance of your own needs or feelings.
Many people who come to therapy notice familiar experiences: feeling 鈥渢oo much鈥 or 鈥渘ot enough,鈥 second-guessing decisions, giving up your own needs to keep others happy or struggling to assert yourself without guilt. These patterns can leave you disconnected from your own desires, uncertain about who you are or constantly seeking external validation.
Through focused, in-depth work, you can reconnect with your own feelings, develop confidence and self-worth and build a secure, trusting relationship with yourself. You may begin to feel steadier in your decisions, clearer about your needs and more able to engage in relationships without losing your sense of self. Many clients notice meaningful changes in the first few sessions, and the work continues at a pace that suits you, helping transformation happen efficiently while maintaining safety.
I offer in-person therapy in Bath and online across the UK, and a free 15-minute introductory chat to discuss your situation and see whether this approach feels right for you.
My first session
In the first sessions, we focus on understanding the difficulties you want help with, how they manifest in your life and relationships and what your goals are. We explore the emotional patterns and conflicts that cause these difficulties and begin to identify ways to shift them.
