About me and my therapy practice
Whatever your issues, I offer a friendly, collaborative and safe environment where we can work together to explore difficulties. Empathy is fundamental to the way I practice but challenge is important too. Sessions can involve a lot of laughter as well as, sometimes, tears.
I specialise in working with both individuals and couples.
In addition to my private practice, I’ve worked for Relate for many years. I regularly attend courses and workshops on a wide range of subjects including trauma, addiction and bereavement. I’m also constantly learning from my own children, family and friends. I’ve always been fascinated by what makes people and relationships tick!
Practice description
My training and experience enable me to use an integrative approach, drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques to enable me to meet your individual needs. I’m interested both in what you’re experiencing now and how your past might be affecting it. I aim to help you gain insight and identify internal and external resources to help create positive change. My job is to make myself redundant!
Individuals
Most of us face challenges daily and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. You might be suffering from traumatic experiences, depression, anxiety, grief, anger or low self esteem. Therapy can help explore what is going on for you, where it stems from and then bring new perspectives and possibilities for change.
Couples
Whether you are married, living together, same sex, old or young, relationships can be challenging. Perhaps you feel stuck in the same pattern of arguing that you never manage to resolve. Maybe you have suffered a trauma, are dealing with an affair, struggling with sex and intimacy or finding it hard to communicate clearly. Help and support are here.
I prefer to work in person as it is generally more effective, although online sessions are possible. It is best if you can come on the same day at the same time every week, although there is some flexibility. Sessions are 50-60 minutes long.
My first session
I’m happy to chat on the phone and deal with any questions or concerns before you decide to book a session.
The initial session is an assessment session and a little different from ongoing therapy. It will help give an overview of your general health and well-being and identify the main issues you’re facing now. We can decide together how therapy can be helpful for you and what you would like to achieve.
