About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my page. I am a Â鶹ԭ´´-accredited Counsellor–Psychotherapist with over a decade of experience and currently in my eighth year at Flourish. I work with individuals, couples, families, groups, and supervisees. Additionally, I have trained counselling students and facilitated therapeutic groups for more than seven years.

My Approach

My practice is grounded in a person-centred and trauma-informed philosophy. I aim to create a supportive and collaborative environment for exploration and growth. Therapy can involve understanding unhelpful patterns, recognising triggers, and addressing misplaced responsibility. I often explore how relationships can recreate unmet needs and reflect social pressures.

I listen to all that is communicated and facilitate expression of thoughts and feelings, including beyond words via metaphor and creative expression.

Why Seek Therapy

People come to therapy for various reasons, including anxiety, depression, emotional numbness, relationship strain, or disconnection. Coping strategies that once protected can become barriers to living fully. Together, we may explore feelings of shame, guilt, recurring conflicts, or limiting habits.

My Practice

I offer individual sessions (also online), couples therapy, group and family therapy, and clinical supervision for counsellors and trainees. I am registered with AXA, Bupa, WPA, Aviva, and Allianz, accommodating those using insurance.

My Journey

My professional path is shaped by personal experience, including reconnecting with my inner world. I am now completing a PgCert in Psychological Trauma from the University of Chester, hold a First-Class BA in Person-Centred Counselling, and certifications in complementary modalities.

I am a cis woman of mixed British and North African heritage and am a mother of grown teen children.  I have a preference for mindful living, having experienced expanded awareness through clear thought. I am ecologically minded and am an advocate for a fair and ethical society.

Practice description

Most of my practice is with individuals, though I also work with couples, young people, families, supervisees and groups.

Outdoors

If you have limited mobility, we can meet at a mutually agreed outdoor location or walk and talk along the wooded paths leading to the shoreline.

Creative

I facilitate creative expression through arts and sand tray. I am also happy to work with any further creative expressions you are interested in.

Experience

The counselling profession and I aligned in 2011. Since then, I have gained experience in charities, education, and private practice. I also teach and work as a supervisor. I am trauma-aware and EMDR trained, and I am presently a student of Psychological Trauma at the University of Chester.

I participate in professional development to revisit and learn more. I also strive to step out of my bubble to recognise what I may not be aware of. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding the impact of social deprivation, differing abilities, neo-conventional family structures, and discrimination based on race and ethnicity, as well as gender, sexuality, relationship diversity (GSRD), and neurodivergence.

Please let me know if any adjustments on Zoom or in the room are required; I am happy to accommodate.

My first session

The Initial Session

I offer an initial session for individuals, either in-person (£30) or via phone or video link, for free. For couples, the initial session costs £35. Please contact me for information about any alternative programs.

Meeting in person can be helpful, as it allows you to get familiar with our therapy space, which is bright yet cosy and located on the first floor of Hamble Memorial Hall. The building offers a lift, parking, disabled toilets, and disabled parking. If you need any adjustments, please let me know. Unfortunately, the room is currently not accessible for wheelchair users due to fire regulations.

Regardless of where we meet, the initial session is your opportunity to determine if therapy with me suits your needs. If we decide to proceed, we will work together to find a mutually agreeable time and day for our sessions, ideally meeting regularly.

Initial/Assessment Session Costs

- Face-to-Face (Initial) - £25-£30 (30 minutes)

- Walk & Talk (Initial) - £25-£30 (30 minutes) in the room

- Couples (Initial) - £35 (60 minutes)

- Zoom or Phone Call (Initial) - Free (30 minutes)

Planning

There is no standard number of sessions; however, if you prefer brief, time-limited sessions, it's ideal that the issues you present align with a realistic time frame. There may be ethical implications if the exploration of particular topics becomes too extensive. We may also need to reassess if we uncover something significant that might challenge your current coping mechanisms.

When It’s Not Wise to Continue

If we have someone in common or if you are experiencing a situation that could be harmful to explore at this time, it may not be wise to continue. If there is violence towards the partner you are seeking counselling with. Or if what you need is medical assistance. Additionally, if I feel my understanding is limited, it may be more beneficial to refer you to a colleague with more extensive experience or expertise in a relevant area.
