About me and my therapy practice

I’m a qualified and experienced Â鶹ԭ´´ accredited counsellor, supervisor and group facilitator.

My way of working is integrative, meaning that my training and appreciation for different theoretical approaches is combined to enhance my practice and the experience of each unique therapeutic relationship. I believe that through this relationship and the process of therapy lies the possibility for understanding, meaning making and creativity.

Providing empathy and warmth and encouraging compassion I work collaboratively with clients from a curious position.

Supporting you through an exploration of your experiences and emotions in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space, I won’t advise or give you the answers but will work with you to make sense of your experiences and find hope for the future.

Practice description

Completing my initial professional training in 2008 I have over 17 years of clinical experience within the profession. My studies incorporated person centred, psychodynamic and intercultural approaches which formed the foundations of my clinical practice.

Postgraduate studies in systemic family therapy deepened my knowledge and understanding of the complexities of human relationships and in recent years I have trained and am now working therapeutically with young people.

Alongside my private practice I also work within the NHS, charity and educational sectors.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, adhering to their ethical framework and am committed to providing an anti-discriminatory practice.

My first session

Introductory Call

I offer a free 15-minute telephone introductory call giving us the opportunity to establish your needs before arranging to meet for an initial consultation.

Initial Consultation

Our initial consultation provides more time to talk about the reasons bringing you to therapy and gives us a chance to explore your current context and to gather some history. We'll also consider your expectations for therapy. You' have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have and we'll discuss some of the practicalities. If by the end of our consultation it becomes clear that we'd like to continue working together we’ll make an agreement going forwards and I'll send some forms and provide you with written information about my practice. However, if it’s felt that another approach or a different counsellor might be more suitable for you, I would be happy to support you in offering some referral options.

Sessions

Our sessions will usually take place at the same time each week wherever possible and will last for 50 minutes.

The length of time that someone will stay in therapy will vary from one individual (or couple) to the next. After meeting for an initial consultation we'll have more of a sense of what you need. This could be a short course of sessions to explore a specific issue or it might be a more open-ended relationship if you’re looking to work on a longer-term basis. Whatever we agree, it will be reviewed during our work together and will remain negotiable throughout.

Our ending will usually be something that we decide together. However, if for any reason, you decide to finish our counselling sessions earlier than anticipated, one final session at least, is always suggested where possible to allow us to end the work we have done together in a safe and contained way and to review the process and impact on you.

Practice description

Approach - My way of working is integrative, meaning that my appreciation for different theoretical approaches are combined to enhance my practice. Initial studies in person centred, psychodynamic and intercultural approaches come together with systemic theory to inform both my counselling and supervision practice.

My supervision training and practice centres around the Hawkins and Shohet Seven-eyed supervision model.

My first session

Introductory Call

I offer all prospective new supervises a free initial telephone call for us to learn a little about one another. If it feels that we might be the right fit and I can offer a time to suit, we can arrange to meet for an initial session.

Initial Session

Our initial session together will provide us with the opportunity to explore your needs in more depth and allow us to arrive at a decision about working together. You will have space to talk about your current practice and work setting, your training and way of working, any previous experiences of supervision and your expectations going forward, amongst other things.

You'll also have the opportunity to ask me any questions you might have about my practice and how we might work together.

If by the end of our first meeting we both feel that we'd like to continue, we'll agree a suitable, regular appointment time going forward; either weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs.
