About me and my therapy practice

Im Victoria, a Â鶹ԭ´´ accredited integrative and EMDR therapist with over 20 years clinical experience in various settings. I specialise in Trauma/PTSD, and alcohol, drug and process addictions. Alongside my specialisms I am experienced in working with a variety of things people tell me that are finding challenging such as neurodiversity, menopause, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions and more.

Together we will create a bespoke plan based on what you hope to achieve in therapy and I will offer you compassion and safety, so you can begin to trust in our relationship and the work we will embark on together. My approach is integrative and holistic, using evidence based therapies, to support physical, mental, emotional well-being and health.

Practice description

I offer generic talking therapy, EMDR Therapy, and bespoke packages for alcohol, drug and process addictions. You may be drawn to one particular approach, or a combination of different approaches. Either way, I tailor the therapy to what feels the best fit for you.

Traditional talking therapy is exactly how it sounds. We meet, usually once a week and are guided by whatever you wish to bring to sessions to work on whilst you are in therapy. I integrate different, evidence based approaches into this type of work, with a style and pace that suits you.

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation (eye movement/tapping) whilst targeting specific memories that are still stored in the brain as raw and unprocessed memories, and EMDR rewires the memory to a more adaptive memory network. This means that when the memory is recalled it no longer holds the same level of emotional charge as before. Unlike traditional therapy, it does not require you to talk in detail about the trauma, and although some discussion may occur, it is not considered a talking therapy. This can be useful for people who struggle to verbalise their experiences or who find talking about the distressing memories re-traumatising. If you experienced trauma as a child I use attachment focussed EMDR which focusses not just on resolving traumatic memory but on safety, the trust between us, and the building of resources to heal developmental wounds and complex trauma.

When working with addictions some people may require more than a weekly counselling session to reach their goals, be it abstinence, moderation or reduction of harmful consequences. Alongside weekly therapy I offer between therapy support via what’s app or email for accountability, motivation, relapse prevention, getting back on track after a lapse etc. Please inquire about prices for bespoke packages as they are tailored to the individual and vary in cost dependant on if you require light touch, medium or high support.

My first session

I offer a free initial conversation by phone or zoom, and this is for us to get a sense of one another, some brief information about how I work and how I may be able to help you. If after this, you wish to book in for an initial consultation I usually suggest we meet in person at my premises or arrange a zoom call. This provides us with the opportunity for a more in-depth conversation about what you are hoping to achieve in therapy and create a focus for the work we will embark on together. We may undertake an assessment as part of the process but this really depends on your personal history and if it would feel useful for you. Essentially, our initial sessions will focus on us getting to know each other, building the trust between us, and having a sense of how we will work together.

Please note, although I do work online, I do not offer trauma processing through EMDR online via zoom, I only do this type of work in person.
